Adventure of the seas, March 3-10

Recommended Posts

Took this cruise with my dh, and our dd. DD is married and has a dd of her own, but we took this opportunity to have some quality time with her and had a wonderful time. We are diamond plus crown and anchor level and stayed in a grand suite so much of this short review won't apply to a lot of you. The ship itself is in very good condition, especially considering its age and the fact that it has had short breaks from service but no really extensive dry docking. We were told that she is scheduled for a month in dry dock for extensive revamping in March of 14. Our cabin was a perfect size for the 3 of us. Had the owners suite last year and while it was bigger, saw no need to book that class again as the grand suite is very comparable. Cabin steward was very good, didn't see a lot of him but had no complaints either. We took 5 bottles of wine onboard and also bought the wine package, between that and the access to the concierge lounge we spent very little on alcohol this cruise. The staff in the concierge lounge was wonderful, especially Shawn Graham, one of the beverage servers. He had us laughing each time we went to the lounge. If you have access to the loung, you won't regret going there! Went to the main dining room 3 times this trip, usually don't go at all but because Adventure has only portofinos specialty dining there wasn't a tlot of choice. Main dining was the usual, good food but nothing to write home about. Portofinos was wonderful! Went there twice, had the steak both times. Thought about ordering someting else on the second time there but the steak was soooooo good had to order that again. Also went to Portofinos for breakfast. The choices there are limited, buffet set up with cereals, pasteries, meats. They will also cook any egg order you want, with bacon or sausage with the eggs, toast and jellies. The orange juice they serve there is fresh and very good. If you want you can go next door to the windjammer and fix a plate and bring it to Portofinos. We were content with the food offered at Portofinos and enjoyed the service there very much. We were invited to dine at the captains table but were unable to accept because we didn't bring formal clothes. I never have seen the allure to dining at the captains table anyway so it was no loss to me. The casino on the Adventure has to be the worst casino I have ever been in! Many of the slot machines didn't work at all, and a lot of those that were working would lock up on a regular basis. Some of the machines paid out in quarters others in vouchers. Some machines accepted the vouchers, many did not. To top it all off, payouts were atricious! With the casino my only real complaint, this was one of the best cruises I have been on.
