Russ Lomas Posted March 24, 2013 Author #26 Share Posted March 24, 2013 I thought I would be adventurous and try duck for the first time. I ordered the Roasted Duck at the waiter's recommendation. It was ok, but I found the meat to be a bit dry for my liking. The cabbage, potatoes, and vegetables served with it were fantastic though. A table mate had the Carved Filet of Beef Tenderloin and was drooling over it. I was not overly impressed with my duck, so I ordered a Tenderloin as well. It was so tender, I used a fork to break it apart instead of a knife. Outstanding. Nobody ordered the Shrimp Ravioli, Pan-Fried Silver Corvina Fillet, or Artichoke-Filled Crepes au Gratin. I would have liked to try them, but I was getting full.
Russ Lomas Posted March 24, 2013 Author #27 Share Posted March 24, 2013 I used to work for Princess Cruises many years back and fell in love with their souffles that changed daily, so when I saw that the Bittersweet Chocolate Souffle was tonight, I had to get one. It was pretty good. Not as good as the ones I remember Princess having, but still worth ordering. Here are the pre-sauce and post-sauce pictures. A table mate ordered the Sky High Lemon Meringue Pie. It was more of a tart, not too large. They said it was very good. Later in the cruise, I had the pleasure of having one of these served in Park Cafe. It was excellent if you like a lemon flavour. Eldest DD is a cheesecake fanatic. She had to order the Double Strawberry Cheesecake when she saw it on the menu. She loved it. My DW tried it and I believe she said it was very light and not heavy. A nice shooter of the day to finish off the meal. Sorry, I do not remember the name of this one either, but it was good (they ALL were). I will be back either late Sunday night or on Monday evening to post the Day 3 photos. Until then....

Laticfanatic617 Posted March 24, 2013 #29 Share Posted March 24, 2013 Sweet mother of Abraham, please tell me these are included in the Premium Alcohol Package! Please, please, please! I can vouch for these on the package too! We are just off the Indy in November and about to board again in 2 weeks .. and I was hooked on them!!! The ones in the champagne bar were made with 'white' creme de cacau instead of the normal stuff which makes them look like chocolate milk. The difference is they look clear if done with the other stuff and look like a true martini lol They are easily made at home too ...creme de cacau (white) and vanilla vodka is all you need at a ratio of 2 n a bit / 1 in that order! to make them more chocolate orange you simply add a drop of grand marnier or similar ... wet the glass and dip the edge in coco powder to really add a sparkle to them lol .. oh did i forget to say the waiter gave me and my pals a lesson early one morning ha ha ha Russ ... i do like the idea of those 'shooters' tho .. again in 2 weeks i'll be on the package .. so do i simply ask when i'm at dinner? not an OASIS thing is it either? great post all the same

lag9122 Posted March 24, 2013 #32 Share Posted March 24, 2013 Very nice I am so excited about going in June . I was going to do Chops but looking at the pics I think we can stick with the MDR every night.
Russ Lomas Posted March 24, 2013 Author #33 Share Posted March 24, 2013 Very nice I am so excited about going in June . I was going to do Chops but looking at the pics I think we can stick with the MDR every night. I am sure Chops is great, but the presentation and quality of the food in the MDR was good enough that I did not feel the need to pay the surcharge to go to Chops to eat. I know others think differently, but to each their own... There is no way I would be paying $30 for my 5 year old twins to go to Chops either (if they even allow them in there). I would be paying $180 for my family of 6 to eat in Chops. No thanks. I know people say to just go with my DW for a meal, but this was a "family" vacation, so we did meals together, and most other things (except when I was alone at the FlowRider...which was often;))

Ken076 Posted March 25, 2013 #36 Share Posted March 25, 2013 The new menus are available on RCCL's website. To access them go to bottom of the mail page and click on press centre. Once there click on link to press centre in middle of the page. Then look for a tab called press kits on left side of the page. PDF's of the new menus as well as specialty dining are found hear. Enjoy. Ken - Could you possibly state the above sequence in the terminology we'll see on the pages? or just post the link to the PDF's? thanks, KEN

The ones in the champagne bar were made with 'white' creme de cacau instead of the normal stuff which makes them look like chocolate milk. The difference is they look clear if done with the other stuff and look like a true martini lol I never went into the Champagne Bar at all. I assumed it was basically just drinks made with champagne. Lesson learned. Next time I am on an Oasis class ship, I will definitely try out the Champagne Bar. Russ ... i do like the idea of those 'shooters' tho .. again in 2 weeks i'll be on the package .. so do i simply ask when i'm at dinner? Just tell your beverage server in the MDR that you have heard that there is a special shooter of the day after each meal and you would like one of them with desert every day for the length of your cruise. The Italian Stallion was my favourite of the week. not an OASIS thing is it either? I believe it is on all of the ships. I sail on the Independence next year, so I hope it is offered there as well. Ken at the beach Posted March 25, 2013 #43 Share Posted March 25, 2013 I notice that your sail dates are all Christmas, New Year, and March Break. I am guessing you are a teacher like myself. My DW is the teacher so yes just like you we have to travel at peak times.
Russ Lomas Posted March 25, 2013 Author #44 Share Posted March 25, 2013 Could you tell me which pier you docked at in cozumel? We were on the Eastern itinerary, so we did not do Cozumel. I think you will find that your pier is the one that is NOT in town in Cozumel. That is where I have always seen the Allure dock.

TigerLady Posted March 25, 2013 #49 Share Posted March 25, 2013 Thread title... awesome :) I will live vicariously through this review - I think my next cruise in May will be one of the last sailings using the "old" menus that we all know so well! I know exactly what i'll be eating for dinner May 11, 2013 - Videlia Onion Tart, Pork Medallions and chocolate cherry cake ;) If I am not mistaken, the new menus no longer serve the Vidalia Onion Tart. One of my favorites. Wasn't on the Allure in October, I know..
