DimSum Posted June 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2005 Do you need to buy additional travel insurance when you go on a cruise? If so, where do you recommend I go buy it? My wife is worried that the kids could get sick and thinks we may need to get more travel insurance on top of our health insurance. Is this a wise thing to do or just a waste of money? Fam of 5 Posted June 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2005 I believe this is a must. I agree with your wife, my concern was also that my kids of DH or myself wuld get sick or hurt and have to be flown back to the US. Regular medical coverage can get a little choppy when you're traveling. I have used Global Care (everythime I left the country, not just a cruise) and thank goodness never had to use them. They have a web site . I hope it's okay that I post it. http://www.globalcare-coco.com I think they are very reasonably priced. Have a great trip. njkate Posted June 15, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2005 so many things can happen between now and when you cruise...life can throw monkey wrenches into the best laid plans....it protects your investment
CaptData Posted June 16, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2005 If you have not bought it within a certain number of days pre-existing conditions will not be covered, ie diabetics.
Andee Posted June 16, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 16, 2005 We always get insurance for trips that have to be pre-paid. If we have to cut the trip short due to our illness or the illness of my elderly parents, or if we need care some place not covered by our regular insurance, or if we have to he helicopter evacuated from a ship, I don't want to add financial worries to our other concerns. http://www.insuremytrip.com is a good site for comparing companies and policies. tinsel57 Posted June 16, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 16, 2005 There was a time when I would never buy insurance but now it's become more evident that the unpredictable does occur. I try to look at insurance as an investment in your trip, not an additional expense, same as it would be with your car insurance, health insurance, homeowners insurance. When something happens you'll be darn glad you've got it. There are multiple insurance companies offering a variety of packages out there. Shop around. Prices and coverage vary greatly. kitty9 Posted June 16, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 16, 2005 Also know that most US health insurances do not cover you when you're out of the country, so even with your own insurance, you might not be covered if you get sick in Mexico or on one of the islands. Gabsabunch42 Posted June 16, 2005 #8 Share Posted June 16, 2005 DimSum, My medical insurance covers out of country also, but I would still get the travel insurance just in case you need to cancel for some unexpected tragedy. If you are traveling during hurricane, that is another reason to get it. You never know what sort of delays may happen to screw up flights, hotels, etc.
cruiseco Posted June 16, 2005 #9 Share Posted June 16, 2005 I have used Global Care (everythime I left the country, not just a cruise) and thank goodness never had to use them. They have a web site . I hope it's okay that I post it. http://www.globalcare-coco.com I think they are very reasonably priced. Have a great trip. Global Care was indeed a pretty good plan. But you left out a "c" in the URL. It should be: http://www,globalcare-cocco.com You'll note that they are now basically acting as an agent for CSA. Nothing wrong with that because CSA has some very good products but the Global Care plans are no longer available.
