makentake Posted April 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2013 I'm not sure where I should post this question. Eight of us will be taking Amtrak from Seattle to Vancouver and will need to get from the train station to our hotel before we board the Coral. Will they have a cab line at the train station or does anyone know a number we can call? Will they take U.S. dollars? Thanks:)
truffles68 Posted April 1, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 1, 2013 Yellow cabs 604 681 1111 Cabs line up available Most cabs will take visa or us currency but at unfavorable exchange rate Have a great cruise!
makentake Posted April 1, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted April 1, 2013 Thank you Truffles. We are all looking forward to a really great cruise!
Potstech Posted April 1, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2013 Yes they will take American money but it is easier if you go inside the train station at an ATM and pay them in Canadian money. that way they will not have to worry about exchanging it. Have a great trip. will be in Vancouver visiting DD in April. Remember there are only 2 Amtrak trains each day. The rest are buses. One train is in the morning the other later in the evening and take about 4 hours. Best way to get from the airport is take the Light Rail train to the International District stop and go around the corner to the Amtrak station. Cheaper than a cab. Colo Cruiser Posted April 1, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 1, 2013 Easy to catch a cab outside the terminal. May be best to pay with a CC.
runnerodb83 Posted April 1, 2013 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2013 If your hotel is near the a skytrain station, that will save you $$$ and you wont need to wait for a van cab or take 2 cabs. The skytrain will also take you straight to the cruise terminal.
Potstech Posted April 2, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 2, 2013 By the way if you pay in American coinage they will give you change in Canadian coinage.
Putterdude Posted April 2, 2013 #8 Share Posted April 2, 2013 There is no van-cab in Vancouver that can carry 8 people. There will be a cab line at the Pacific Central Station and there is an ATM and a currency exchange in the station, however cab drivers will accept US currency or US Visa & M.C., a fare to most downtown hotels will be about $10. Just want to make sure I understood correctly. Our group of 10 is also flying into SeaTac and staying at the Clarion Aiport hotel and are planning on taking the train to Vancouver for our cruise on the 22nd. There is a light rail that we can catch to King Street station instead of a taxi? Thanks for any help!!
zephyr17 Posted April 2, 2013 #10 Share Posted April 2, 2013 Yes, take the "Link" light rail from SeaTac airport to the International District station. The light rail station is at the north end of the parking garage, follow the signs (it is a little bit of a walk). When you get to the International District station, go up the escalators, make a U turn at the top and head south. Turn right at the coffee shop(s) to a walkway that will take you to a crosswalk over 4th Ave S. On the other side of 4th Ave S. there is a pedestrian overpass over the station platforms (Weller St. Overpass). Cross the overpass, go down the elevator and King Street Station is to your right. It is about a 35 minute ride.

CruiseRev Posted April 3, 2013 #12 Share Posted April 3, 2013 In Vancouver you can take the skytrain downtown to the cruise terminal and possiblyto your hotel. But, you must walk, with luggage, about two blocks to the skytrain stop and then climb a long flight of stairs.

There are stairs (currently closed) closest to Pacific Station, but if you go another 100 ft and cross the street, there are elevators and an escalator. Putterdude Posted April 4, 2013 #14 Share Posted April 4, 2013 Given that a cab fare from the train station to most downtown hotels is $10 and the SkyTrain fare is $2.75 pp I am not sure why anyone would bother to schlep their luggage around town like Gypsies to save the difference. After spending thousands on a cruise vacation..why not splurge on a taxi.

scottbee Posted April 5, 2013 #16 Share Posted April 5, 2013 Wow, "gypsies" Yes, it's an odd comment to come from someone, isn't it. On the last three cruises we've taken (out of 3 different countries), it's been either a bus and/or train to the port, and skipped a (slower more expensive) private transfer. Does that make me a ......?

Putterdude Posted April 6, 2013 #18 Share Posted April 6, 2013 I have chosen to delete what I intended to post. However, I am very aware of what happened on a previous poster's roll call and his views of transfers.
