Halifax or St. John with kids

we will be going to both Halifax NS, and St. John NB on our upcoming cruise. We have a 6 year old and a 4 year old. We know that Ontario (another Canadian province) has car seat laws, wondering if anyone has been on any tours in these two ports with small children. If so, what did they do for car seats?

At he very least, you're going to need booster seats and perhaps an actual car seat for the 4 year old depending on weight.

we are going to be driving our own vehicle to Boston, I just don't want to have to take car seats on board. Might just do walking stuff.

I live in Halifax and can tell you that your children will need car seats by law. Both Halifax and Saint John are great walking ports.

would car seats be required in taxi's or tour busses? I know in Ontario they are not required by law. the only legal requirement is in personal cars, not ones for public transportation type things.

That I don't know. I understand your view, though on carseats. We used busses exclusively on our last cruise and it was nice not to have the carseat to lug around.

For Halifax, you could wander around the waterfront. Consider taking the Harbour Hopper tour which your kids would love. I do not remember this even having seatbelts. http://www.mtcw.ca/harbourhopper/

I know you do not have to use a seat belt in a taxi though I always do. You can look here and perhaps contact the government to ask questions.

Here is post from last year and nothing has changed with the law, so your responsibility unfortunately. Odds of being stopped and ticketed probably slim

and if visitor I'm sure would be understanding.
