NCL Newbie...help with Sun please...

We have been wanting to try NCL for a while after seeing how much fun NCL passengers have upon their return from port. We have always loved watching the different crewe dancing and how it appears they were really enjoying their jobs. Now it's our turn! Any tips or hints for the Sun would be most appreciated...thanks all, and happy cruising!

She is a smaller, older ship but that being said you will have an excellent cruise experience on her. We took our first cruise on her and have her booked again for 2015. The crew was fantastic and we couldn't have asked for a better first cruise. Do you have any specific questions? The Sun has the Great Outdoors buffet on the aft and the Garden café further in. The Great Outdoors is a great place for breakfast and you should grab a table close to the water.

Thank you! Any hints are most appreciated. We are not new to cruising and have been on different lines but never NCL. I guess it is just comforting to hear the experiences of others...good and bad. Most of our cruises have been on CCL with a RC and Disney thrown in the mix. We know what to expect on CCL and normally choose anytime dining so we think the freestyle experience will be a good fit for us. We have been envious of the NCL passengers in the past because their crewe seems so much more friendly and happy. I'm really not sure what to ask...I have read all the NCL tips I could find but I didn't see much that was Sun specific.

Do you know if they have a Internet package?

They do but I'm not sure of the pricing. It is the extremely slow internet available on most cruise ships. I know CCL was offering a high speed option at one point last year but the speed on NCL is normal cruise ship internet. They will offer specials if you buy it the first day. Hopefully someone who has cruised recently has the pricing.

The SUN has slightly larger balcony cabins than the rest of the fleet. There is a lovely shower/sauna area in the spa that is free for passengers to use.

2 swimming pools 4 hot tubs 1 kiddy pool with a hot tub...

There is a GREAT lounge on Deck 11 or 12 called the Observation Lounge, floor to ceiling windows and there is a deck out front of that. Moderno surcharge restaurant for dinner but during the day for breakfast and lunch there is no charge. Good Sangria up in Las Ramblas (above the Buffet) icky tapas though (no charge for them).:)

Sports Bar for late night dining food served 5pm - 5 am ... popcorn in the afternoons, soft serve machine just outside there at the Great Outdoors.

There is the White Hot Party. Dazzles is the disco. When we sailed there was a great 4 piece band.... they were fantastic. I hope you have great acts as well.

Dining on deck 5 aft is the Seven Seas I ate most meals there. Four seasons is midship on 5 just off the pursers desk. Cakes/pastries are free from the Java Cafe but the coffees are for a fee.

I had a bit of luck in the Casino (very minor luck) and staff there was friendly.

Oh the Sun is a great ship!! It gets a little crowded in the hallway around the shops for the free drawings. I got a nice pair of earrings at DI there.

Have an absolutely wonderful time!

We love the Sun! She's an older, smaller ship and doesn't have some of the mega ship amenities such as rock climbing and water slides, but she's an amazing ship. There are some pics of our time on the Sun in a link in my signature. I would sail her again in a heartbeat!
