Fluffy Terry Posted April 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2013 I need help from anyone who has been on a cruise tour to Alaska before Trying to figure out how much extra cash we have to take on our cruise tour for the extras We are on the train three times during our cruise tour - are meals included on the train or do you pay extra Most hotels offer continental breakfast - is that the case on a cruise tour - we are figuring on lunch and supper on the land portion As meals can expensive in Alaska we are trying to figure out what is included and what is extra. Any other expenses that we need to consider besides souvenirs, excursions that anyone can think of Any help would be greatly appreciated - we have done the cruise before so know the costs there just unsure about the land portion
Al0everah Posted April 6, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2013 Speak to your travel agent. So many different options/packages/inclusions/exclusions/operators its like asking how long is a piece of string. Please speak to your agent to get your relevent information or phone the operators. Have fun :)
Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted April 6, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2013 Also, you can post this question on the board for the cruise line that is doing your cruise tour. There will be people on there that have taken your trip. They will give you good insight.
Medicalley Posted April 6, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2013 We are on the same cruisetour. As far as I can see, meals are NOT included in the price, but can be paid for by card on the Wilderness Express. We take a pre-loaded US currency card that can be re-loaded via the internet if we run out:D
LaurieCM Posted April 6, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 6, 2013 My husband and I went on the Princess Exotic Explorer cruise tour a few years ago. We stayed at the Captain Cook in Anchorage the 1st and last day of the land portion, took the train to Denali, stayed at the Princess lodges at Denali and in Fairbanks, at the motel in Coldfoot, and at the place the oil workers stay at in Deadhorse at Prudhoe Bay. The only meals that were included were the sack lunch on the Tundra Wilderness Tour at Denali and another sack lunch (much better) on the bus between Coldfoot and Deadhorse. Breakfast was never included but always available. Every place took cash or credit/debit cards. Food can be a bit pricey in Alaska, but is generally very good. The meals on the train are good, with good portion size. Try to pay with cards when you can, so that you will have cash for the times when they don't take credit/debit cards. We bought a bottle of booze when we got to the hotel in Anchorage (a package store was across the street) so we had something for nightcaps on the land portion. None of the hotels we stayed at offered continental breakfasts.
Budget Queen Posted April 7, 2013 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2013 Meals are NEVER included unless specifically mentioned and definitely, not where you are mentioning- train and "included" hotel breakfasts. Budge 50% more for meals that you would at home. That should offer you some extra.
Fluffy Terry Posted April 7, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted April 7, 2013 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1641404 Come over to our thread. It would be nice to hear from another that is taking the same as us. We are flying in July 12 so we can rent a car and explore some of Fairbanks first We are from Canada and we just take our US currency credit card with us So that wouldnt be a problem, just would like to pay for as much as possible in cash instead.
