Why are they called "water wallets"?

I won some "pleather" (oh yes, high quality) travel document things playing trivia on a Royal Caribbean boat and a member of the staff referred to them as "water wallets". What does "water wallet" mean? Am I just dumb or is this something I should know? lol

A real Water Wallet is an item that you can keep cash, credit card, room key, etc in that will keep them dry when you swim/snorkel/etc.

 

What you got may or may not work. Try it with some regular paper in the bathtub before you risk your money!

I bought an Aquapac one just big enough to hold my cruise key, a credit card and cash. It was waterproof and would not close if something was sticking in the compartment that made it waterproof.
