mlkitt3 Posted April 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2013 We have private day tour booked from Athens port to Delphi. Has anyone been to Delphi do we need a site guide? Are there any information boards around site explaining things? Do you get a map of site at entrance? If we have a guide for 2 hours do they take you into museum as well as site? Have posted this on the ports of call as well. Thank you for any information.

Have posted this on the ports of call as well. Thank you for any information. We have been to Delphi twice, once from Athens and once from Itea, it is a wonderful day trip. You can buy guidebooks in all the major languages at most kiosks in Athens, and in Delphi itself. Reading up on it in advance of your visit will enhance your experience. Try to get there as early as possible to avoid the busloads that will arrive midmorning. A guide will facilitate your visit, but one is not really necessary. The highlight of the visits for us was the statue of the Charioteer. Amazing in its detail, this statue is one of our favorites. Very well displayed, try to get in that building when you get there, it gets crowded. There were several tavernas in town, had good food. It was in the late 90s when we were last there, hopefully you will get some more up to date responses. Enjoy your visit, it really is a special place. sea chantey Posted April 10, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2013 DW and I were there in October 2011. A cab company took us there. Cab drivers are not tour guides, and my recollection is that guides at Delphi were an extra 100 - 150 Euros. We enjoyed the trip. Delphi is in a spectacular setting. We learned later that the Rick Steves guide book was one of the most thorough.
jtl513 Posted April 10, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2013 I think your private tour guide will be with you the full excursion, including at the site.
