User CP >Settings & Options > Edit Options > Messaging & Notifications (bottom half of the box)

 

OK, I get there and see this:

Default Thread Subscription Mode

 

When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic,

you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads

, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread.

But I can't find anywhere that I can choose whether to subscribe or not.

For me there's a box to the right of Default Thread Subscription Mode: that has a pull-down menu arrow. The default (for me) is Do Not Subscribe, and the other menu choices are No email notifications, and Instant, Daily, or Weekly email notifications on your subscription.

 

Are you missing that, or just didn't notice the pull-down arrow?

OK, I found it. I should have scrolled down on the drop-down list :o Mine was set to 'No Email Notification", the second option on the list (the ones visible in the list only dealt with emails). Thanks :)
