Back To Back Cruise Question

Hello everyone. I’m thinking of taking my first back to back cruise in 2014 on the Riviera. How does it work on debarkation day of the first cruise and embarkation day of the second cruise? Do we have to leave the ship or can we stay on board? Can we leisurely go into port like we normally would or will there be any restrictions with leaving and re-boarding the ship? Thanks for the info!

We were on a B2B cruise in the Med last fall from Istanbul to Athens and then on to Barcelona. We had to change rooms in between (got upgrades :)), packed everything in the drawers and bathroom up and left clothes hanging in closet. We went up to the Terrace Cafe for a leisurely breakfast. Our room attendant let us know after breakfast that we could move into the other room now or she could move us a little later on. We chose to move ourselves. After unpacking, we walked off the ship and walked around the port in Athens. Everything in town was pretty closed down due to the strike that went on the night before. Afterwards, we re-boarded and attended a special luncheon that the Marina was hosting for continuing passengers. By this time, new cruisers were boarding the ship. No hassle at all with re-boarding. We had been issued new cards the day before and just had to present them as if we were returning from a shore excursion.

We have done two B2B's and both times the transition was seamless. As grmmybtty indicated, you will need new cabin "keys" to align with the new passenger list for that second cruise. However, you can choose to stay on board or wander around the port as you see fit. Remember, though, that not everything on board the ship may be available to you as staff readies it for a new group of passengers. Enjoy ~ B2B's are wonderful with twice the fun.

What is interesting about a back to back is to see how the dynamics of the ship changes when a new group arrives on board. We loved our back to back and have another one booked for next May.

We were in the same cabin for both segments of our b2b on the Nautica so we did not have to deal with moving. We had already been to the port where the changeover occurred so we stayed on board and found it to be a wonderful day for doing laundry!!! The only other people in the laundry room were one or two entertainers.

Enjoy your cruise!
