scottbee Posted April 21, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2013 BELLINGHAM - In an effort to raise more money for border protection and inspection, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security wants Congress to authorize the study of a fee that could be collected from everyone who enters this country at land crossings. http://www.bellinghamherald.com/2013/04/20/2974196/feds-want-to-study-border-crossing.html#storylink=omni_popular#wgt=pop#storylink=cpy Must be in order to catch up to the $40 you have to pay to enter by air. Putterdude Posted April 22, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2013 Read the same type of article in the online edition of the "Vancouver Sun" this morning given the reaction of many border state legislators I doubt this idea is going to far. It really flies in the face of what Canada & the US have been tying do in terms of expediting the movement of goods and people across the border. But an interesting Sunday read and something to provoke controversy.
Putterdude Posted May 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2013 As expected a US senate committee quashed this bad idea today. It conjured up visions of CBP officers with coin changers on their belts and credit card machines in hand...."that will US funds only....". http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Ottawa+pleased+that+wont+impose+border+fees/8368210/story.html
