Other Things to Do

My sister and I will be in Grand Cayman in November. We are not really beach goers and in the past visits have gone snorkeling, swam with the stingrays, gone on an island tour and visited the turtle farm so we are looking for something different to do.

I was thinking of the Pedro St James House or Botantical Gardens. Has anyone else been to either? And do you know how much a taxi would be?

Any other suggestions?

Pedro St.James has a very engaging multi-sensory theater presentation, a restored "great house" with lots of historical artifacts, and very picturesque grounds. US$10/adult for entry. It is in the Savannah area, quite a bit closer to George Town than the Botanical Park. Taxi fare from the cruise terminal in George Town would be about US$29 one-way i.e. US$58 to go and come back for up to 3 persons. http://www.pedrostjames.ky/

At the Botanical Park you have a good chance of seeing the indigenous Blue Iguana, as well as lots of different tropical trees, shrubs, flowers, etc. Taxi fare from the cruise terminal in George Town would be about US$57 one-way i.e. US$114 to go and come back for up to 3 persons. http://www.botanic-park.ky/

If you're interested in going to both Pedro St.James and the Botanical Park, you should really consider the Cayman Safari tour. I believe their 5.5 hour tour goes to both of those attractions, and includes lunch, plus various other stops, fully guided and narrated, for US$99 per adult, US$69 per child 12 & under (this tour is not for children requiring a car seat though). They get great reviews on TripAdvisor, and several positive mentions on CruiseCritic too. http://www.caymansafari.com/

Thank you for the information. I had found both Pedro St James and the Botanical Gardens in my research, but was not sure about transportation.

Are there any buses from George Town to either site?

I don't know how adventurous you are feeling, but we just returned from a cruise to Grand Cayman and booked the Pampered Ponies horseback ride and swim independently. It was an amazing ride not only on the beach, but into the ocean itself and one point the horses actually swim while you hang onto their manes. It was AMAZING!!! We were picked up and dropped of at the pier in a very timely fashion. Google Pampered Ponies if this sounds interesting as we can't express how much we enjoyed it!

Hi! We are also going to be in Grand Cayman in November and were looking at the Botanical Gardens. After reading the reviews and extensive google searches, we were quite impressed with what we'd heard about Cayman Island Safari and specifically Shirley. It didn't take to long to realize we needed to book with this group. We'll be visiting the QEII Botanical Gardens, lunch at Vivine's for some local flavour, a quick snorkle stop at Morritt's Beach, and then on to a brewery tour at Cayman Brewery if there's time. Should be a fun day.

With all that we wanted to get done we decided to go with Shirley because she seems to give a full and fun experience and get you back to the boat in time. I'd be wary of taking a cab to the east end. It's quite a distance from the pier and I've heard stories about bad traffic and taxi's who arent interested in coming all the way back out there to pick you up. For us the tour and their record give us some peace of mind.

Whatever you choose, have fun!
