Hi, Charfan....unless someone like John Bull happens to look in, you might be better off asking again on the Port of Call page, under Europe- British Isles. There's some very knowledgeable people hang about there, who can give you good directions. ;)

Jo calls & I come a-runnin' ;)

Quickest & easiest transport from that end of London to Southampton would be the train from Waterloo station.

From Odessa Wharf to Waterloo station is about 5 miles.

You could take a taxi all the way - hailing a black cab in the street would be quite expensive (around £25 to £30 at a rough guess), or phone for a private hire taxi mebbe 30 to 60 minutes before you need it, which is likely to be about £10 cheaper.

Alternatively taxi or walk about a mile to the nearest tube (metro) station at Canada Water, and its a direct tube train from there to Waterloo station. I don't know Canada Water station, but it is wheelchair-friendly so should be luggage-friendly too.

Which you choose depends on the depth of your pocket & your attitude to schlepping luggage on the tube.

Trains from Waterloo station to Southampton Central station every 20 to 30 minutes, journey time about 90 minutes, cost about £35 pp.

But if you buy non-amendable tickets in advance they can cost less than half-price. The choice of trains is restricted to one every couple of hours & you have to specify which one when you book but there will be a couple which will comfortably fit your timing. They are the same trains & seating as full-price tickets and the ticket supplier, Megatrain, is a subsidiary of the main train company, South-West Trains.

If you miss your chosen train your tickets are just waste paper, so you'd have to buy full-price tickets at the station for the next one mebbe 20 minutes later.

Buy those cut-price tickets at

Book from about 6 weeks out. Megatrain tickets aren't available for sundays.

An alternative to the train is National Express coach. Tickets are about £16 or less, but they leave London from Victoria coach station. For you, this is a further three miles beyond Waterloo station, there's no direct tube train, journey time to Southampton is well over two hours, there are luggage restrictions & booking is very strongly advised. Destination is Southampton coach station, not the cruise terminal option because that doesn't apply to your sailing.

From Southampton central station or coach station is a five minute taxi hop, under £8, to RCI's berth at City Cruise Terminal. Taxi ranks at both stations.

Alternatively its a three-quarter mile walk on level ground.

I'm intrigued what sort of a vessel docks at Odessa Wharf.

But it's a safe guess that it's not Oasis of the Seas :D

Hey J.B,

Slight change of plans, looks like we will be going to "Harwich" from Odessa Wharf. What would be best way for that?

Many Many Thanks

Best way would be from Odessa Wharf by taxi to Liverpool Street Station, where trains are available direct to Harwich. You could try taking underground from Canada Water station (the nearest to Odessa Wharf), as John Bull suggested in his first post, but having looked, there are no direct services to Liverpool Street Station. It is 4.3 miles from Odessa Wharf to Liverpool Street Station, and as I said, a taxi might be better to avoid hassle of moving luggage on and off.

The company who run the services from Liverpool Street Station are "Greater Anglia"...their website gives all the services and ticket prices.

If you also Google Harwich International Port, there are details of train services which are run especially for Brilliance of the Seas and Celebrity Infinity passengers, but they are generally for disembarking passengers, returning to London.

Hope this helps and sufficient until John returns!
