Take the DSLR or leave it home??

Recommended Posts

Don't leave the D70 at home. You'll regret it. I took mine on the Navigator this summer. Check out the photos link in my signature.

Paul,

Great shots! How did you get such good, clear night shots?

I have vacillated over this issue so much.... I have a D70 + lenses, and took them on my June 2006 'Best of the Med' cruise on Galaxy, and I got a number of good shots. But there's no doubt, constantly changing the lens is a pain, and it annoys my wife. So I've recently bought a Canon Powershot A620, and I'll take that on our forthcoming (non-cruise) holiday to Mallorca. I'll decide about next years Galaxy cruise nearer the time!

One issue for us in the UK is that we have to fly to all these holidays/cruises, and on flights within Europe we only have limited baggae allowances - 20 kgs on most airlines (23kgs on BA!), plus a maximum of 6kgs hand-baggage. Sometimes they check the weight of the hand-baggage, sometime they don't. I always carry the DSLR outfit, of course, and that on its own takes up most of the 6kgs.

Like American Express says....don't leave home without it!

Between my DSLR, a couple of lenses, back-up Digicam, P&S, power accoutrements and portable storage, 95% of my carry-on luggage is photographic equipment! I've yet to regret a pound of it!

It's a lot less painful to say, "I guess I didn't need that" than, "I sure wish I'd brought that"!

Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Dave
