Fresh off the Glory! Any questions- fire away!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

We just got off the Glory this morning. Our cruise started off pretty badly (Bill herniated disks in his back so we pretty much spent the first half of the cruise in the cabin, unfortunately). The last leg of the cruise though was great. We had Cheers, FTTF, and a wheelchair if anyone has questions! Ill be doing a more extensive trip report later. :)

Did FTTF board with Platinum /Diamond members or did you board after ?

We actually got to the port around 11:30, and boarding had already started. As soon as we stepped in the terminal they directed us to the special security line and then directly to the checkin counter. There was a big FTTF sign and a lady with a clip board looked at our papers and sent us right to the counter, no wait. Total time curb to ship was maybe 15 minutes.

Welcome home, hope you had a great time. any problems ?

Thanks! I can't wait to go see my fur babies. :) As for problems, that's a bit of a loaded question. We did have some difficulties with a few things (the tender process with the wheelchair was a nightmare. They turned off the ability to go to deck 0 on the elevators, and it was a big pain finding someone to get us down there). Also, I hate to say it but our room steward was very unfriendly. All in all though we smiled as much as we could and made the best of it. :)

Really :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I just find the whole Platinum/Diamond vs FTTF issue so juvenile. Sorry but that is my opinion and it has been debated ad nauseum all over the Carnival cc boards. :o

That had to be tough , I also find that to be so unfair for people in chairs :(

You would think Carnival could find a better solution .

I will say this about FTTF. I was sitting next to a platinum couple on the cruise who were concerned about FTTF getting priority tenders. They didn't think we did, and I winked at them and let them know we did. They were upset at first and I told them all of the ins and outs of the program, like the fact that its very limited per cruise as to not create long lines for platinum guests, etc. We ended up chatting for a while and they became my "cruise buddies" saying hi in the casino and asking about Bill.

One more thing- turns out I had more days at sea than the platinum wife! (I'm at 40+. They had taken more shorter cruises).

It was frustrating. I always have tried to be more sympathetic to folks with disabilities but 80% of the guests don't give a hoot about people in wheelchairs. Combine that with a completely unorganized tender process for disabled people. It made me sad. Carnival has to make a better system. I kept thinking, why not just have people in chairs meet in one place then run a couple of elevators to deck 0 without stopping just for them? It didn't ruin our cruise but I just couldn't believe it. My heart hurts for folks in chairs all the time. :(

I was interested in this thread since i'm sailing on the Glory in less than 30 days! Should I have any questions for the OP, I'll be back... :p

They use to do that ,but you had to request it from guest services before hand.

I wonder why the heck they stopped? And, if they still do, why not inform people instead of making you request it? Seems like it would make sense to let you know when you rent the wheelchair that that service is an option.

Happy to know that you were able to enlighten them.

Sorry to hear about the troubles you encountered with your husband though. People sometimes turn off common sense and courtesy when on vacation. Not cool though!

Thanks. It's all good in the hood. We were super fortunate to have some awesome folks from our roll call and that we met around the ship the first day before Bill was bedridden who made up for it. They left messages in our cabin and even presents on the door. It really was amazing. :)

I agree with you on this ,it's ridiculous to have to make a request .

I think handicapped customers should have priority over all others.

What was up with the room stewards attitude

If you are not able to walk some, and in a mobile scooter for instance .. you are not allowed to tender at all.

I think they dont want people in wheelchairs and scooters to tender. .. they just barely allow it.

they used to pick up scooters, but maybe it was insurance, or just too heavy .. but they stopped allowing this.

Yep, me too. I'm able bodied and have zero problem accommodating those with disabilities. :)

Oh, the room steward. He did not introduce his self and just seemed angry from the minute we boarded. I have no idea why (we joked that maybe I looked like his evil ex wife or something ;)). I even left him an extra tip the first day hoping to lighten his attitude towards us!

I don't think he understood that Bill could literally not sit or stand. He was bedridden. Id been telling him when he came by to clean that we didnt need service, just exchanging towels with him and letting him fill the ice bucket. On day 3 or 4, he came by and said we had to leave, that he had to clean the room or he would get in trouble. Now mind you the room was spotless- not even a piece of laundry on the floor since I'd been in there all week taking care of Bill. We limped out to the lido straight to a lounger for a while so he could do his thing.

Hopefully he was just having a bad week. Maybe he needs a vacation. I can say though that his assistants were very nice, smiling and friendly.

You may be right. I wonder if they tell people that? They didn't say anything to me about it.

Belize (day 3) was out of the question. It was the day of Grand Cayman (day 5) that he could actually walk short distances. When we got to the gangway Bill walked onto the tender, and the guys down there folded his chair for me and helped me unload it on the ramp when we got to the port, which i was very grateful for. Then I wheeled him around from there. :)
