cruizers Posted May 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2013 Has anyone stayed in 9260 or any of the other cabins at the rear of the ship? We stayed in a similar cabin on the Explorer and felt the engine vibrations all day/night! Is that the case on the Brilliance? Thanks, in advance, for any comments you may have. ace1zoe2 Posted May 16, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2013 We were in 9256 corner aft and didn't feel anything either. It was a great cabin with a fabulous balcony. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Driftwoodgal Posted May 17, 2013 #7 Share Posted May 17, 2013 We have sailed on the Splendour when it was having stabilizer problems that casued vibrations. This sailing we had a D1 mid ship. Had a ship that was in need of a new propeller which caused some vibrations. We love the aft on the ship and prefer to have a cabin there if we can. We haven't had problems with vibrations other than what was a known issue with the ship. The ships were fixed at there next dry dock. Just wondering if your problems on the Brilliance had something to do with a stabilizer etc?

mjldvlks Posted May 17, 2013 #10 Share Posted May 17, 2013 The engines are actually more or less centrally located on the lower level of the ship. If you look at the funnels, think of that as the approximate center of the engines with them fore and aft from there. And remember, they are pretty big. The Radiance class are driven by two gas turbine engines with an integrated steam turbine. These engines are, in part, intended to have less vibration than the cylinder engines on other ships. Radiance class and newer RCI ships, they are driven by pod propulsion which is an electric motor in a pod at the rear of the ship that is driven by electricity generated by the engines. The electric motors should generally be pretty smooth unless there is a problem that causes them to be out of balance [i.e. a bearing wearing out, a flaw in the propeller as a result of hitting some debris, or maybe something entagled in the propeller]. Point is, if you don't feel engine vibrations in the MDR or Centrum [which are closer to the engines] you are unlikely to feel it in an aft balcony on a higher deck. Having said the above, while we haven't stayed in a aft balcony, we have stayed in a side balcony on 8 on Radiance that was fairly far aft and we had no vibration problems. I predict you will have a great time.
