Carnival Sunshine Cabin Question

Cruiser-66

Recommended Posts

We are traveling with a child that is on insulin. I just heard that not all cabins have refrigerators. I also heard that if they bring one in it takes up a lot of space and puts off a lot of heat. How would I find out which cabins have built in refrigerators? Our cabin on the Sunshine is 9194 Deck 9. Thanks for any help!

Your best bet would be to book your cruise using one of Carnival's PVPs (personal vacation planner).

They should be able to tell the specifics of each cabin.

Carnival also has a Special Needs Department.

They'll be able to assist you with any special requirements for your child.

I saw this post too. I would not assume that they can bring you a refrigerator. They say if not they will store your meds. insulin does not require refrig, but many do it so it stays good longer.. but its not required. You might wind up taking the insulin elsewhere to have it stored (carnival does not guarantee or say they will provide refrigs, onlys says they will if available) and having them store it, as it looks like you do not have a refrig. This class of ship was not built with them, so its not a complete surprise to me. I have been on Triumph which is a similar but newer class and it did not have them either. You can request a refrig, but that does not guarantee you will get one, only if they have one available at the time.

You will also have to request a sharps container if you use a needle from your cabin steward.

According to goccl.com, the cabins with refrigerators are all suites and cabins on decks 3,5,10,11,12 and some on deck 9. So it looks like the only cabins that got refrigerators were the newly added ones. Plus it looks like even the existing cabins on deck 10 got them as well. Maybe because they were spa cabins they got a bigger remodel and everything was gutted? It looks like in the regular cabins they just used the existing cabinetry.

Does all the insulin need to be cold, or is it a loaded pen that needs to be refrigerated after you start that cartridge? If its the pen type I've kept it on ice in a soft cooler if I didn't have a fridge available. (I was on NPH insulin pens.)

I travel with my dad and he is diabetic. He had an insulin pump and also uses the pen. You don't need a refrigerator....just tell your room steward on the first day that you need 2 ice buckets in your room at all times. Use one ice bucket to keep the insulin cold. The room steward will be more than happy to do this for you. When the ice starts to melt they will add more.

You can call Carnival and they will tell you if you have a frig. My insulin can go for day without refrigeration. I'm just not taking anymore than I might need.

You may wanna always take an extra vial or get the Novolog pen because in December on the Ecstasy my dad had a vial of insulin break. It's always better to have an extra vial with you

I had the same question, we have a family member with a very expensive med that must be refrigerated and we can not afford to buy extra just in case. The sunshine does not have a fridge in cabin. I emailed guest services and they added a medical alert to our booking and stated that they have requested a fridge for us but it is not guaranteed. If we do not get one then they will store it for us in the doctor/nurse area downstairs : )

Good luck!!

Its always a good idea to have extra medication. I let my mom count out my sisters pills .. once. She didnt give her but a couple of extra and we got hit by hurricane ike and they told us when we overnighted in cozumel they were not sure when we would get back. I went to the hospital and spent $60 getting scripts written (I had them written onboard from the pill bottles but they wanted mexican doctors) .. spent $100 to get two seizure pills filled for one extra week.

We didnt need them.. but I didnt know that. I would never go anywhere with her again without a extra week's worth.

You dont know. Always bring extra meds.
