Can we take carry on luggage to the room?

We plan on boarding the Conquest around noon when we cruise, and will have some carry-on luggage with us. Can we drop it off at our cabin, or do we need to wait for an announcement that the rooms are ready? I prefer not to drag luggage around while we are waiting for our room to be ready.

Some people will probably post that they always take their luggage to the cabin prior to them being ready. But unless you are VIP or FTTF as previously stated your cabin may not be ready and even if it is the cabin stewards leave the doors open or can reopen them to facilitate inspection by their supervisors.

So anything you drop off in your cabin is not necessarily secure.

We've always headed straight to our cabin as soon as we have boarded, and we board as early as possible. If our cabin is not quite ready, the steward will be in there finishing up, and we ask if we can leave our stuff. We have never been told "no."

As for security, throughout the cruise, whenever the steward is cleaning, the door may be left open, just as it is in hotel rooms. I trust the steward is close by or keeping an eye out.

If you leave anything of value in your cabin, put it in the safe. Put hand luggage out of sight (under bed, in the bathtub, somewhere where a passer-by, if inclined to steal, would have to spend enough time searching the room to find it that the steward would catch him at it.)

Everyone always seems to think it is unsafe to put luggage out the night before debarkation, too, at the end of the cruise, due to fear of theft, but I don't hear many stories (never heard any, in fact) of anything actually being stolen.

Maybe I am too trusting of my fellow passengers (and, of course, the ship staff...)?

(These comments do not constitute legal advice... :D;) so don't sue me if something goes missing! :p)

It never hurts to go up to your deck and ask. We would never intrude on the work of the staff if we would be in their way, but we always ask and more often than not, they invite us drop off our things. We're in our cabin for literally 90 seconds, so it really is no issue. We appreciate that the rooms are not yet secure, so we don't leave wallets, passports or cash lying around at that point. By the same token, however, passengers aren't roaming the halls, so an incident of theft is highly unlikely.

I know in the past, people have left their carry-ons in the cabin before the cabin was ready.

But since the roll out of FTTF, people are being told they can not do it unless they are Diamond, Plat or FTTF.

YMMV

On my last cruise, they had personnel standing at the closed doors to the cabins, turning people away unless they had proof of FTTF or Platinum/Diamond. That was the first time I'd seen that happen.

That has occurred the last 2 cruises I have been on.

It is not a big deal to carry your luggage up to the LIDO for lunch. Put down your bags, take turns getting your food, and when you are done eating, your rooms will most likely be ready.

We are platinum and on the Dream last week headed straight for our cabin only to be berated by an employee escorting a wedding party. She kept telling me that we were not allowed to go to our rooms. I told her we were platinum and that we were allowed. More berating from her followed. I then showed her the signs on the doors indicating Platinum and FTTF could enter. She said,"Oh. Well, I don't work on the ship so I don't really know." Geesh.

This only works tho if your ship has FTTF! If it doesn't even VIP guests are forced to keep carry ons, unless you find the heavy security doors open And can sweet talk the staff!

Go to excursions and click on your home port, if it is available it will be listed, it is $49.99 per cabin, not per person.

sailed the Splendor late April, the ship does not have FTTF.

There was a sign on the doors that Diamond, Platinium, and VIP could go to their cabins. So, me thinks:D, that there is a good chance on all others ships that haven't rolled that program out yet.....Platinium or above maybe able to drop off

their carryons and such;)

If you are not Platinum, Diamond or have FTTF then you are not supposed to go to your room.

The people who feel it is not an inconvenience to the steward for you to just drop off your stuff are being very unfair to them. They depend on your tips so what do you think they are going to say when you ask??? They have so many rooms to get ready they are already stretched to the max trying to complete everything by 1:30 as it is.

Sorry...... but for years I waited until 1:30 to go to my room because it was the right thing to do......so unless you have earned the right...... you should have compassion for these hardworking stewards and wait your turn.

Amen! We have never broken into the closed fire doors to drop off our luggage, even after becoming Platinum. If they will allow us to do so now, that's great, but it is rude to bother them when they are working so hard for us.

I've seen it one time so far, the closed doors.

On our last cruise, DH and I snuck down to our cabin, with me humming the Mission Impossible song and peering around every corner. We didn't see a soul, so I used my key and found our room ready. We dumped the back pack and snuck back out. Easy peasy!

Agreed.

They will always say yes go ahead if you ask. They aren't going to risk making someone mad on the first day. IMO it is inconsiderate to disregard the fact that they clearly ask people to stay out of the rooms until a set time. It's not that difficult to keep your carry ons for two hours. And if it really is that big an issue than you should check all of your luggage.

I've been on ships that don't have FTTF and also didn't have the sign on the door..........

I'm a rule follower and even after 30 cruises I would never put a cabin steward in the position of having to be polite to me about something that is clearly against the rules........

Is it a nice perk on the ships that do allow it?......absolutely, but as others have said it's just not that big of a deal for us to go to the Lido and claim a table then have one person go get food while the other waits....Sometimes I'll go to the buffet and get two platters, fill up one then split it with sister when I get back......

It's really not that big of a deal........

So the rules don't apply to you??

If everyone dropped off luggage the poor stewards would never get the rooms ready.

I will never understand people who think rules don't apply to them.

I hope from now on all ships have the fire doors closed and staff posted to keep folks out until the rooms are ready. We have found this to be the case on all of our cruises.

Nice to see there are still people who follow the rules. We purchased FTTF for our next 2 simply to drop off bags. If we didn't have that, we simply take turns waiting with our carry-on in the Lido area.
