new yorkers whats the name of the building

the Fashion District is in the high 30's to middle 40's... you can get some wholesale stuff up there... they don't sell retail...

I believe that you're talking about Century 21...

Like the other posters said... it's on Cortland... right across from Ground zero.

Nobody buys retail in NY - but like the other posters - I think you are looking for Century 21. There are other places though like Syms and Mens Wearhouse for guys

Lohmans and Filenes Basement for Women

um... yogi... no disrespect... but... why?

I look at C21 all day long... I work in 1 wfc .... it's the first thing that comes to my mind when someone mentions clothes at discounted prices....

crass commercialism? I think not...

I think maybe the OP's intent was "discount"... not wholesale...

Hey Templed,

I'm sorry, but as a native New Yorker, I find it hard to believe that there is only ONE place to buy discounted clothes in the city. Come to my habs in Astoria and I'll show you great places on Steinway Street.

The OP is probably visiting Manhattan, not LI. I doubt some tourist from another country unfamiliar with NYC is going to venture across the East River. I don't live in NY but used to travel there often and C21 is the place that stuck out in my mind.

The other poster works at 1WTC. That's right there and the person probably looks at C21 all the time. We were all just trying to tell this person about the place that a tourist would most likely go to save $ on fashions.

Like we have some allegiance to the place or get a kickback for mentioning it?

Agreed.....

I don't shop for discounted clothes in Manhattan... but... as a tourist... would you suggest that you send them off to Astoria... or 89th st. in Brooklyn?

LOL...

Hey Templed, Yeah, I'd definitely welcome them in Astoria. I'd also happily send them off to Brooklyn. Let's face it - that's what NYC is all about - Astoria, Flushing, Staten Island, da Bronx, anywhere there's an orange cat!!!

My family still lives in Brooklyn and I can call them to ask, but I have a questions since I no longer live in Brooklyn and have been in San Diego since 1982, I remember the areas in Manhatten like Delancy street and Orchard street? those where the best places to shop, do they still exist?

Yes, they sure do, but areas like Flushing and Astoria have come into play in the last 20 years. Flushing, especially, has become a shopper's "paradise."
