refund checks from on-board credits

In April (April 6, 2013 to April 13, 2013), I went on a cruise on the Norwegian Epic. I have bought on-board credit, plus I received on-board credit for Christmas presents from different people. I did not use all the on-board credit so NCL was suppose to mail me a check (that is what my invoice said that I got on my last day of the cruise).

Well, after two months, I did not received any check from NCL. So I called NCL 8 days ago and they said they are going to reissue my check to me. So far, I still have not received the check. I have received mail from Alaska in less than 8 days, so mail from Miami should not take this long to get to me.

Has anybody else ever have a problem with this? If so, any advice?

I would like to go on another cruise on the future, but this experience has me second guessing myself on using NCL again. I love the NCL cruises (been on two so far), but I feel like I am being screwed out of my money.

I doubt your check was reissued the minute you got off the phone.

Your first check was lost. They have to stop payment. That alone can take up to 2 days for the bank to verify.

I work in accounting and when chrcks get lost I tell my customers to allow 10 days at least.

I would not let this sour you. How was everything else about your cruise? I hope you get your cash asap and you can look past this and have more NCL memories.

I have had two experiences with this. First, I received a check (only for $4 so wasnt worried at all) within about 14 days of my return. Next time was for over a $100 but received again within 2- 3 weeks. To me was good turn around time. I realized they need to settle the accounts, charge the cards, balance all, send request for refund to another department, then that dept. has to cut the checks and send out. I assume your situation is a fluke. Good luck to you.

hi my suggestion next time you hae shipboard credit you will not use

go to the casino pay the 3% and get your cash asap

it iss worth the3% transaction fee to get your money asap

I just don't see any great reason to buy an OBC in the first place. Things like this come to mind as good reasons to hold onto your money.

How was everything else about your cruise?

Everything else was great.

I love the fact that the Norwegian Epic has rooms called Studio Cabins for us solo travelers. I wish every business would find a way to become more single friendlier.

I wonder how often mail gets lost in the mail?

One of my friends who work at the USPS did not know, but he told me of a story that the law enforcement had to keep a bunch of mail for over six months to use as evidence during a trail.

He also told me that very rarely, the machines destroy a few pieces of mail due to the machines getting jam (he also stated that UPS, FedEx and other delivery companies have the same problem with machines).

I think the percentage is very, very, very low.

Don't know about you, but I have never seen a bill get lost. They always show up.

The percentage might be minimal given the total volume, but actual number is suprisingly high anywhere where letters are sorted with high-speed machines. For example when daily volume is 100.000.000 letters and just 50.000 gets destroyed or goes missing for good, that's only 0,05 percent but still that's quite a heap of mail that will never reach it's destination.

You may be right, a bill might not get lost, but my check to the Water company paying my bill GOT LOST. That's been over 2 years ago, and that envelope with the check in it has never turned up. I dropped it in the mailbox at the Post Office and that's the last it has been seen.

When I got the next months water bill, it showed a past due amount. After phone calls to the water company and the bank, paid the total amount, just figuring if that check ever showed up, we'd have a credit.

I received the check in the mail yesterday (June 29, 2013). I think that either NCL or the USPS just made an honest mistake so that is why I did not get the first check.

Most likely, I will go on another cruise with the NCL.

So glad you got it. Sounds like a mail thing. I have issues with our mail being delivered to the neighbors and vice versa. I know sometimes I am guilty of forgetting that I have theirs because I tossed it on the table or whatever.

We have had credits the past two cruises and have gotten the refunds in the 2-3 week time frame.

That is what I think happen. Pre-Katrina (before Hurricane Katrina), my neighborhood had a great mailmen. He knew where everybody lived (he even knew where the dogs lived so if a dog was loose, he would let the dog owner know). But post-Katrina, it seems like we get a new mailmen every six months and once the mailman knows the route really good, we get a new mailman.

You're probably right as to the reason mail gets "lost" sometimes. Judging by how often we get other people's mail, I'm sure others get ours sometimes too. You only can hope that, sooner or later, it will find it's way to you.

BTW, thanks for letting us know the outcome of your problem. Often people post about issues and you never know if they've been resolved or not.
