Snorkeling in Jamica

Went to Jamaica on RCCL's Freedom in 2012 and decided to go snorkeling in Jamaica, as we'd snorkeled just about everywhere else cruise ships go in the Caribbean. My advice: skip the snorkeling in Jamaica, at least for the excursion we did. Grand Cayman is MUCH better!

I've been reading a lot of posts about activities close to Falmouth for families and active folks, but I need advice for those of us who are older and don't want to drive too far, climb, walk a whole lot, or spend the day at the beach (we'll fry! LOL) The bamboo rafting looked great until I read somebody's post about getting sick after the trip, so now I'm spooked. We had a bad experience on a private tour on Grenada, so we're wary of that since we felt they took advantage (maybe our age?). We love water and sailing, and I always love to snorkel, but the snorkeling on Jamaica last time we were there was very disappointing . The Hilton looks great, but again it's a beach/pool thing and we'd prefer seeing Jamaica and nature, but without pushy vendors. So, any advice? Or should we just skip the Jamaica excursions?

My Time 'N Place: Rustic, primitive, inexpensive, friendly, safe, nice beach, wade in tide pools, close to cruise port. HOWEVER, not good snorkeling.

I've been diving around Ocho several times - because that's where I was for a couple of days of R&R with the ship and I needed ways to fill the days. I would never book a trip to Ocho for diving.... When I visit on a cruise it is with family who's never or seldom been and we do the falls. They enjoy that . . .

Mystic Mt is relatively new and fun but far from cheap. The bamboo rafts were also popular with the crew but I've never done that myself.

We (family) do the Falls

Guides? We don't need no stinkin' guides . . .

We go up the middle!

This sounds like a good place, how do we find it?

Were you bothered on the beach by locals wanting to sell something?
