Adventure of the Seas questions

When should we be expecting our cruise documents? I remember reading that somewhere but can't find it. Does anyone know if you can make spa appointments before boarding the ship or on the day we board? Or do we have to wait until a later time? thanks.

You should get your docs about 3-4 weeks before your sail date. You can make your spa appointments when you get on the ship. They spa is open from 11-8 the first day usually.

For something a bit more "island-y" than Subway or BK, there is a good Cuban restaurant called Metropol in Isla Verde across from the Wyndham El San Juan Hotel. It is really reasonably priced and the food is delicious.

By all means, if your kids are adventurous eaters, try something local. If they are more picky or less adventurous, the standard at-home restaurants are there as a back up. I'm sure my son wouldn't touch the food at the place we ate previously.

Kris, we received our travel docs via email over a week ago. If you used one, check with your travel agent. Sometimes, they have them and just need to get them to you.

KJ, how adventurous my kids are about food often depends on how tired they are and how they are generally feeling that day. If they have been traveling all day and are exhausted, something familiar often goes a long way in appeasing them. That is one reason a cruise is so great for us; even though we have been touring or whatever all day and they are absolutely exhausted, knowing that they will go to the same restaurant with the same waiters and the same food offered every night helps a lot. When we cruised the Med two years ago, during that horrendous heat wave, after we toured museums and ancient ruins for hours during the day, we all loved hitting the air-conditioned gangplank at about 5pm every afternoon and KNOWING that we were going to have a good meal and a good night's sleep in a familiar bed.

Thanks, again, for all the good information and feedback. I just got put down on another thread for asking questions. The guy told me that my questions weren't of any value and I should just go searching for old posts for my answers.

Hi all,

My husband and I are also on this sailing of AOS July 31, 2005. Glad to hear there are a few people going. This is actually the first time I have heard about anyone talking about this date.

I have a few questions. Are there still midnight buffets? What trips are everyone booking. So far we are going to the AI Grand Pineapple Beach in Antigua day pass. AI St.Lucia at Rendezvous and to Orient Beach on our own in St. Maarten. What about the casinos in St. Maarten. Does anyone know when they open?

We are on Sunday around 10:30 am and will go right to the port. Anyone else. We are from Ct.

Thanks,

Mary

Craftymiss, yes they had two midnight buffets. The first was on Tuesday night (I am pretty sure) and was the poolside Caribbean buffet and party. This is our favorite, it is always so much fun.

The more formal midnight buffet in the dining room in on Thursday night. It opens for viewing maybe 11:30 or so and then you can actually dig in after 12. It is something beautiful to see but we tend to avoid it because it is always so crowded.

You will love the Pineapple in Antigua. We were there last November and enjoyed a great day. Their drinks are very strong and it is fun to try their unique concotions. We found the 12 year old boys sitting at the bar snacking with a couple of girls and having a great time drinking virgin drinks.

Bay, don't some of those rude posters just drive you nuts. I have gotten so worked up at times but then I remember it is not worth it. Don't worry, you can ask anything here. I enjoy reliving my cruise.

I forgot to subscribe to the thread.

Currently we have two excursions booked.

In St.Lucia we are taking all 11 with COSOL in his van to see the Drive up Volcano, a plantation, bread factory and do a little swimming. He includes all his services for 35pp. He has a brother Yellowbird that also drives.

In Barbados we will be swimming with the dolphins and doing a kayak for 45 minutes. Boy are we pushing it.

Make sure you sign up for the meet and greet to get everyone included and we could have a private party included in our cruise. Sounds like something interesting.:) :)

KJ, thanks for the encouragement. I've made notes on the midnight buffet. Our new cruisers are going to loooove that. I think the abundance of food is more exciting to them than the destination.

Rose, a couple of questions. How do I subscribe to a thread? I always go back and start loooking through them all to find the ones I want. Takes time. Also, how do I sign up for the meet and mingle? I saw your roll call thread but didn't know there is something else to do there, besides raising my hand.

And while we're at it, could someone please tell me what the little icons under the rating column mean, the paperclip and the check marks?

We just got off AOS on 7/3/2005, from a cruise on the southern route that included Aruba, Curacao, St. Martin, and St. Thomas.

Formal nights are on Monday and Thursday, which are the "at sea" days for this itinerary. Lobster and shrimp combo (Fisherman's plate) are served on Friday night. There is one Gala buffet on Thursday night. One night they had a buffet on the pool deck (we didn't go, too stuffed from dinner). Food was good to very good, but not great. We are Platinum level cruisers and saw a distinct reduction in food offerings when compared to previous cruises. For example, only two salad dressing offerings when there used to be three. Less "fancy" dishes such as chateaubriand are offered, dessert selections are reduced and were simpler. In Portofino's, lobster is NOT available every night as it was in the past. They now serve lobster as a selection only on Friday nights, (which is the same night as the dining room). I will write a more complete review later this week and will be glad to answer any questions.

One word of caution, I would avoid booking the deep sea fishing expedition in St. Martin, it is $199.00 and my son went for the most expensive boat ride we ever saw. He is twenty and none of the participants even got to touch a fishing pole, much less catch any fish. The boat captain put out one line with live bait, and 2 other lines with artificial lures. They rode around for four hours without a strike. Boat did not chum the water, or try any different bait/lures during that time. When they pulled the lines in at the end of the excursion, the live bait was gone. My son said it was the sorriest excursion he had ever seen. Does no good to complain to the ship, there response was fish don't always bite.

Hi Mark,

Would you happen to have brought your compasses home?

;) Does anyone have the Compass for the Barbados Route? We have 18 people going ranging in age from 11 to 85 and we are trying to plan our trip. We are on the August 14th Alternate Route.

:) There is a link at the top of the screen while you are in a thread called "Thread Tools" Click on that and it will ask you to subscribe to the thread.

We are leaving 8/7/05. We got our docs in the mail last Friday! :p I am really looking forward to this cruise. We (hubby and son) are coming in the night before and staying at the Sheraton Old San Juan. We have been on the Navigator twice, and even though AOS is her older "sister", we are still looking forward to some wonderful times.

Happy Sailing Gang!!
