Venice Embarkation

Taxi or ship transfer. You can probably take a bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma, walk to the people mover, ride it to the other end (one stop) and then walk to the ship. But that is not for me, so I am not sure of the specifics.

The best way to arrive in Venice is by water. Alilaguna Linea Blu. (Blue Line of Alilaguna boat service) runs every 15 or 20 minutes from Marco Polo direct to the cruise terminal - the boat runs right past St. Marks, and gives you a great view of Venice as it should be seen: from the water.

The only problem with this line is that it takes nearly an hour to get to the port. In addition, one has to get from the terminal building at VCE to the pier with all their luggage...and its a hike. And once you get to the Port you must walk (and drag your luggage) from the pier to the port terminal building. A taxi will take you from right in front of the airport to the luggage drop point inside the port. We do agree that the Alilaguna ride can be fun if the weather is good, the passengers have no mobility problems, you do not care about the slow ride, and they can easily handle their own luggage.
