Laundry package

Recommended Posts

Great question.I just had a conversation with someone at PG.We are lucky to have a shipboard credit from our TR .I called to use part of it toward the laundry package.I was told no.Separate charge.WHY????i also asked if my credit was refundable.Again NO.Seaboune always gave us back our TA credit. It is not your money.I already have a very negative feeling about PG.We haved cruised Silversea and Seaboune and never have had a issue with our credits.I hope this is not a nickel and dime cruise.

For some reason the laundry package must be booked before you board; several days prior as I recall. I have in my review (linked in my signature below, a copy of the laundry "list" so you can get an idea of the per piece price. We decided to carry bags on and packed quite a bit of simple wash and wear sportswear, so the package worked out well for us. We easily sent 4-6 pieces per day and came out "ahead". If much of your items need dry cleaning, cannot be dried or need pressing (none of which is included in the package) you might find it better to do individual prices.

Best of luck with your trip!

Capri- the one item I did find I could use for my OBC was pre reserving my shore excursions by phone, which were then charged to my account once on board. I don't spend a lot of superfluous money (no top shelf liquors, gambling, shopping or spa) so I was quite glad to use the bulk of my $700 on shore excursions.

Pg used to allow the AMEx credit to be refundable in the past but no longer.

Other lines can have both refundable and non refundable OBCs. I have recently booked on Crystal and was told that none of the credits are refundable nor can they be used in the casino. Went on regent in may and there too our various credits were not refundable so obviously the luxury lines are divided in their approach.

Its good that pg allows you to use your OBC for excursions.

Lots of good stuff in the shop.DH stocked up on tommy Bahama shirts. The pearls may call as well.

We had the laundry package on our Cook Island cruise. It was nice to just not think about the costs. I'm sure we would have done a lot less laundry had we not had it and would have packed more to insure we had clean stuff without the laundry costs.

Was it worth it? For us yes, but more from a "don't worry be happy" angle then economical value.

I found PG the least nickle and diming of all the cruises we have ever taken. With gratuities, liquor and soft drinks included, our only extras were shore excursions, photos, and spa treatments, which IMHO should be extra as people can pick and choose. PG was the only line we traveled where you can book shore excursions in advance and pay for them onboard, so it is easy to make sure you get the excursions you want in advance and still be able to use shipboard credits for the payment. With that fabulous jewelry store onboard, it is easy to use them up as well.

I have no idea why laundry needs to be booked and paid for in advance - perhaps it is an outside concession, or offered as a moonlighing gig by the laundry workers instead of pay. That is the only reason that would make sense to me, but as it is such a high amount, I would think PG would want its share. Anyway, once onboard, you never have to pay another cent, unless you want vintage port.

Now I'm confused. They don't return items pressed? We took the package on Windstar last year, and items were returned either folded (underwear, socks, t-shirts, shorts) or pressed on a hanger (blouses/shirts, skirts, pants).

Are you saying that if I send my husbands pants out to be laundered that they don't steam or iron them and they come back folded?

We need an answer for this one.I just assumed that shirts or pants would come back ironed. If they do not does not seem like a good deal at all.I was just about to purchase this so answers will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I called PG and spoke to a very knowledgeable lady.Clothes are washed and pressed. She said she never heard of their service sending back unpressed clothes. If they did she said they would want to know.

We recently cruised the Society and Cook Islands itinerary - we were able to purchase the laundry package for the on board (it was offered for the first 48hrs). We decided to go for it and weren't disappointed - service was quick and clothes were clean and pressed. We only had one item dry cleaned (my sweetheart's dinner suit) I don't think they charged us extra for it. The only thing that was slightly annoying was having to pick the little room tag numbers of our clothes! I'm still finding them!

Loved the laundry service- sent stuff out everyday- and it often came back same evening. Still finding stapled 707 stickers on my clothes...

Ours was a 14 day cruise and the laundry package was worth every penny.

This sounds like a great service that will let us travel very light next time. It is a bit odd that you can't use a shipboard credit, but I guess they have to organize the manpower in advance (perhaps they do the laundry off the sihp). As for OBC's, it's the norm on many lines for them to be non-refundable.

The laundry is done on the ship. Almost every day, our laundry was returned by 4pm.

We came off the cruise last week, actually at the Tahiti airport now on the way home. We used the laundry service and everything came back pressed and on hangers. While they advertise that you have to purchase the laundry package in advance when we boarded we had the option for that day only to,purchase it at the same price. If you did that it would go against your credit. We did not but used the laundry sparingly.

$1 for underwear, $4.50 for shirts, $7.00 for pants (more or less based upon my memory). We spent our days in shorts or bathing suits and only put on a pair of pants and shirt for dinner. In this way your clothing really does not need a lot of cleaning.
