dsrdsrdsr Posted July 20, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2013 We used the first taxi in the queue at the dock - we only wanted him to take us to the tourist office, but when we saw the card in his cab saying he did full-scale tours, we asked him to take us. It couldn't have worked out better if it had been planned for months. No guarantees you'll get the same man, though!

Roughly how many hours? Thanks
dsrdsrdsr Posted July 21, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 21, 2013 What sort if rate did he charge you for driving you around to the various sites? Roughly how many hours? Thanks I can't remember the amount, but it was a full day (off the ship as soon as it opened, back an hour before departure - so about 9 hours or so. We had taken a packed lunch from the breakfast buffet which the driver shared. (We shouldn't have, apparently it was against food import rules. But the driver wasn't bothered.) It was a good deal cheaper (for 4 of us) than a ship's excursion would have been. We didn't go the Golden Circle route, because we'd done that a year or two earlier, but we went on a sort of "reserve list" of sites. The big advantage being (i) only us at each site, not a full bus; (ii) he took us several places where the bus wouldn't or couldn't go, including a road in the interior which had only just opened for the summer. The roads in the centre have to be remade each year. It was a very smart, very new car - something like a Nissan Urban, three rows of seats.
