Celebrity new to port

I will be going on Galaxy's second cruise out of Galveston. Are there likely to be any problems with embarkation/disembarkation in a new port?

Could well be some problems - as the ships depend on contract workers for a lot of the port work - stevedores, check-in personnel, some supplies, etc.

Celebrity started sailing to Mexico from San Francisco last year, and they are still have some problems, particularly at embarkation, and some difficulty with vendors - ie, no fresh flowers brought on board at San Francisco as they are still trying to "cut a deal" with local flower marts, etc. It sometimes takes a good deal of time to build the proper relationship with contracted support personnel.

Hi Justin! How are you doing?

I know that Celebrity and Galaxy are new to the port, but the port isn't new to cruise ships and other shipping, so would hope they are able to cope. After some of the issues Celebrity had with Baltimore, I would guess they have done their homework quite well. We'll see! icon_smile.gif

Hope it's OK for you. We're not going out of Galveston until March 2005 so hopefully they'll have solved any problems by that time. I do agree that it's not exactly like Galveston is new to cruise ships and the port authority has been working overtime to attract more ships.

RCCL is sailing out of Galveston and that should make things easier. I'm sure they will share facilities and possibly vendors.
