Flights .. too soon?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys/Girls

We are first time cruisers and need to ask a question about booking domestic flights home after a cruise.

We arrive into Sydney at 6am, would a domestic flight at 11:10 be too soon?

We usually get off the ship between 9 am and 10 am. I am not sure if I would want to risk being late for a flight if you have to take a taxi to the airport too.

you dont say what ship you are on but even tho you might arrive at 6am you wont be getting off then as they have to get clearance from the port authorites so if you can book a flight after 12 noon it might be better just in case you are held up for any reason

Thanks for replying, my initial thoughts were that it was too soon, the family were suggesting that flight cause it was about $80/person cheaper. I dont mind sitting in airports though (Qantas Club member), so i would like the later flight anyway

We have sometimes got to the airport by 11am, but that wouldn't be in time to catch an 11am flight. Sydney airport is usually chaotic with long lines to check in and then another long line to go through security. I wouldn't book anything prior to 12noon and we usually opt for slightly after 1pm because my husband is a worrier. :)

I suppose it wouldn't matter then. If it was at the OPT, I would do a walk off at 9am or earlier. If white Bay, possibly get a later flight.:D

It's certainly possible to meet the flight, and cruisers have done that in the past.

It does give you less leeway in case of delays with the cruise arrival. Fortunately that doesn't happen often, but it has as well.

Basically, it should be achievable if that's what you really want, but it does increase the risk which is only small.

We aim for a flight about midday to 1.00pm. That way, we can take our time getting off...no rush...and have a nice breakfast in the restaurant before we disembark. If we get to the airport early, we have asked if there are any earlier flights and have often been put on the earlier flight without extra cost.
