Late for Dinner Seating

Recommended Posts

It's very kind to let everyone know if you will be late. I have on many cruises experienced tablemates being extremely late and not giving it a second thought. I view it very rude and inconsiderate of those folks. A few minutes, ok, more than ten or so it becomes a problem for the entire table not to mention the waiters. I too remember the days when the doors were closed at a certain time and no one was allowed in.....

Also never returns to a thread, so maybe she doesn't even KNOW that what she posts is off the wall, especially since she posts the same misinformation time and time again.

Another poster on another thread mentioned that it seems like her numerous, repetitive, and often with incorrect info posts must be on auto-reply !! Maybe...stranger things have happened!

Hi! I have a question about the "protocol" regarding being late for the dinner seating.

We have an upcoming cruise with the Early seating...we're also looking at an excursion that will take us to about 4pm...I was hoping to do a quick look around port (Portland, ME) and then going back to get ready for Dinner...

I'm not usually that "late" person but I also dont want to stress. We enjoy the Main Dining Room but dont want to cause any problems.

Is there an acceptable time to be "late"?

Thanks!

A word to your waiter and dinner guests the day before goes a long way. That way they aren't waiting on you and you can still join them.

not really. the table will not get served until everyone shows unless the waitstaff knows ahead of time you will not be there.

I've seen mention of this on CC before, but it hasn't been our experience.

We have been a few minutes late to dinner here & there, and tablemates have already ordered. Sometimes they've even had their first course finished before we receive ours. Sometimes they stay a course ahead of us the entire evening. On the other hand, we've never had to wait for late tablemates before placing our own orders and starting with the first course. I think it depends on your waiter.

Not a biggie either way ...

Cozumel is a late port. We arrived on the ship after our dinner time in the MDR. We were all tired from the sun, etc that day and were happy just to hit the WJ. The next night, our waiter asked where we were, and we told him that we were late getting back on the ship. He told us that we should have come anyway. So, no telling?

There is no way we were going to get dressed for the MDR after swimming all day, but some people might want to. so I would just check with your waiter
