Princess Insurance, Diminished Capacity

I usually travel with my 29 year old daughter who has Down Syndrome. I recently learned that Princess Vacation Protection would supply my daughter with a one way coach airline ticket to my home city in the event it become necessary to evacuate me to a shoreside medical facility for some reason. Because she is over the age of 18, no escort would be provided for her. Fact is she could never navigate her way through any airport to get onboard a plane, so one can see my dilemma. I suspect that there are others who also travel with someone who suffers from diminished capacity and are unaware of this flaw in Princess' travel insurance. I'd welcome any advice regarding this.

All she needs to do is ask the airline for assistance. My mom is visually impaired and can travel by herself. They will assist her to her gate and get her to her next gate, etc... They are pretty good at this.

To be fair and not knowing the level of disability it may be difficult or impossible for the person to even get to the airport.

But that said, policies only cover return they don't include assistance (for example, what if the companion had special medical needs, or alzheimers, etc - the insurance simply cannot cover that much variance..)

We don't have the same special needs situation as you do, but niether my wife nor I would want to stay behind if the other was medically evacuated.

So, we buy MedJetAssist Insurance in addition to Princess Vacation Protection.

MedJet Assist:

"Up to two (2) family members, business associates and/or traveling companions may accompany the patient, at no additional cost, on a MedJetAssist authorized aircraft during transfer, provided space is available and patient care is not compromised.

One family member or traveling companion may accompany patients being transferred via scheduled commercial airline at no additional cost via economy class."

In addition, Princes Vacation Protection and most others will only transport you to the "nearest suitable medical facility" - which may be the hospital in Aruba for example. If one were to need a long hospital stay for recovery it would be in Aruba - or medical transport to a hospital near home at ones own expense. MedJetAssist transports you to "a hospital of the member's choice" as soon as one is medically stable for transport.

I will check out Medjet Assist.
I was going to suggest you do. You can buy it just for your cruise or an annual policy. We had occasion to use them a few years ago and our experience was excellent. For peace of mind alone, we have annual policies.
