Ruby doing 4/5 day sailings!

Where are you going on the 3 and 4 day, and what ship are you taking?? From your profile it looks like you are in CA as well.

The 3-day cruises just go to Ensenada and a sea day. The 4-day cruises go to Ensenada, and either San Deigo, Catalina or Santa Barbara on the Golden.

We would rather take a cruise that goes to Catalina rather than SD or SB because by the time you figure in the cost to get to Catalina, it isn't that much more to do the extra days on a ship. We are 2 hours from either Santa Barbara or San Diego.

Is it best to buy the cruise from Princess, on line or a brick and mortar cruise agency.

No right answer for this that fits everyone.

If you need a lot of guidance in selecting a cruise itinerary, a ship, and a cabin location, go with your local B&M agency.

If you know exactly what you want, the other two options are viable. Many will book with Princess and then transfer the booking (before final payment) to an online TA that can offer them a discount and some amenities. Many will book with the online TA in the first place.

No matter who you book with, check what fees there are for making changes or cancelling. There are many discount TAs that have no change fees or cancellation fees. There are also many TAs that do have such fees.

If using a TA (B&M or online) make sure you are aware of hours you can contact them and whom you can contact if the person you normally work with is not available.

We were hoping to cruise the Greek Isles on the Ruby next year, but sadly she's been replaced with the smaller Ocean Princess for that itinerary.

Sadly?

You should rejoice. On a port intensive itinerary like that the smaller ship is a better ship to be on.

I agree, you'll be so busy with the ports, you not have as much time for ship activities. As well, you'll be able to get on and off the ship so much more quickly.

We usually do longer cruises, but with a 14-day coming up in October, and a 14-day planned for January 2015, the timing and budget both ruled out a long cruise in 2014. This short itinerary to the Bahamas/Grand Turk perfectly fits both needs. I haven't sailed Princess in several years, and never on a big ship, so I am looking forward to the experience.

But yes, our roll call is sadly inactive. Three older couples and a group of 20-30-somethings, and the other two couples are doing B2B's.
