Future Soda Package Policy

I agree. I don't drink alcohol or soda and don't want to be forced to pay for a package that I'll never use just because they feel like some people are getting over on them. I mean honestly, soda is cheaper than water so I've never even understood why it's not just free. It's cheaper than dirt.

I wonder, given that it's < a) and < b), whether it would also be cheaper than mud?

I realize it's not a given...but it is a mystery.

There are two sides of this coin. First of all, NCL wouldn't even have to consider it if people didn't already "share" one or two soda packages amongst everyone in their group. Personally, this would affect me because while my teens can most likely drink their weight in soda each (and yes, I buy them each a package) during a cruise, I rarely drink soda and would not want to have to spend the extra $50 on something I'm not going to utilize. When I want soda (since I don't drink much alcohol, either) I usually purchase one at a time and buy it in the souvenir cup so we have some to take home. I most definitely would not even come close to covering the cost of the package for myself--even if my teens would try to make up the difference, lol.

Hopefully if word gets out they are considering this policy, those who are "sharing" will stop. Perhaps they should just slightly raise the fare and include soda like they do the water, lemonade and such. That way it solves all the problems.

No No No!

1. Why would I want to pay a higher fare to include soda when we don't drink soda!

1a. I would be just as upset if they charged a higher fare to include alcoholic drinks since I don't drink.

2. Water is NOT included - unless you drink it out of the tap. They charge for bottled water. Lemonade was on the Breakaway, the first time I ever saw lemonade, and was available in the buffet. Ice tea has always been included either at the buffet or at the MDR's.

... don't want to be forced to pay for a package that I'll never use...

...I disagree that everyone should be punished for a few rule breakers. I do not see how they FORCE us to purchase a package for all ppl in a room if only one really wants/uses it....

I'm a soda drinker and she is not. She shouldn't have to pay for the package just because I am. And I shouldn't have to pay double because she isn't a soda drinker...

Nobody is being forced into anything.

Nobody has to pay double.

There are 4 options for soda drinkers.

1 - Pay per drink like many people do. Just like a resort or bar or restaurant or football game or movie.

2 - Bring your own soda, soda pop, or pop.

3 - Buy a package if everyone in the cabin wants it.

4 - Drink wine - okay, not an option for everyone, but....

I was told today by a representative of NCL that they are discussing a policy in the future that if one person in the cabin purchase a soda package that both or all cruisers in the cabin would have to purchase it. They said there are too many instances were people are sharing the package. As of right now, if you purchase an alcohol package..everyone in the cabin has to take the package.

As far as the soda package is concern..I feel that is not right because people like myself who have medical conditions who does not drink soda should be subject to this policy....

We had already been told this was the policy before so did not buy it, which just goes to show you get different answers every time you call.

Just to confuse things more ;) VIP with Casinos at Sea gives you two free soda packages. Would you have to buy 2 in order to use the free ones if you are traveling with 3 family members? (Yes, I know it's ridiculous!)

Anyhow, I'd rather wait and worry and talk about it IF it gets implemented. I highly doubt that it will.

LOL - I am CAS VIP and won't make use of the two free soda pkgs since we don't drink soda!

As more people bring their own pop on board, I could see cruiselines charge a corkage fee or recycling fee as I am sure very few are carrying their empty pop containers off the ship and it wouldn't be the $.20 cents per it is now on land at recycling depots. Probably $5/case :)

They could add $5 per person, make soda regularly available, as you say DCL does, and probably still come out ahead, with a lot less hassle for all involved. Figure, even though there are many who do not drink soda, I would venture to say that in any given party booking a cruise, at least one member of that party is a pretty regular soda drinker.

Not true - in all the cruises the two of us took neither one of us ever ever drank soda. If you look at the price to take a cruise on rcl and a cruise on ncl you'll see that you are paying for soda, their prices for a cruise much much higher
