5soccer9 Posted September 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2013 We are doing the Coral partial transit and my question is do you go through the locks and then get off for your excursion? If we do an e cursing we didn't want to miss anything. Also any suggestions for excursions would be appreciated, we were looking at boat tour ,railroad excursion or the monkey wildlife. Thanks. CruiserBruce Posted September 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2013 The normal procedure for a partial transit is to go thru the Gatun Locks, then into Gatun Lake, where shore excursion pax only are allowed off. The ship returns back thru the Gatun Locks and docks at Colon. Recently I have seen some info that some ships never go thru the locks, but only dock in Colon, with excursions showing you the various sights. Have you checked this on the Princess Website? This is a critical piece of info. Just down the board is all sorts of info about excursions, sights to see and tons more info.
BillB48 Posted September 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 3, 2013 After the Coral Princess locks up through Gatun Locks and reaches the Gatun Lake anchorage is when you will tender off the ship to begin your shore excursion. As CruiserBruce pointed out you must book a Princess shore-ex in order to leave the ship. Probably one of the most popular excursions is what Princess calls Panama Canal & Locks by Boat. This is a very popular excursion which takes you through the two Pacific Locks and Gaillard Cut. The combination of your lockage through Gatun Locks in the morning and the Pacific Locks, Gaillard Cut on your excursion will give a look at a large portion of the Canal. Excursions to the Embera Indians is also high on the favorites as well.
