Hi CINDYSUE.

No one has been on it yet. The first Celebrity Cruise out of Galveston will be on the 1st November this year. We'll be on the second one and can't wait!

We are also wanting to plan our 2005 Cruise Critic Reunion Cruise, so I hope they hurry up with that schedule

As mentioned above Celebrity hasn't started this itinerary yet but it does sound good. So good that we've booked the 21 Mar 05 sailing and already are counting the days. Really looking forward to you early travelers and your feedback/reviews!

I have to admit to being a bit lazy in the past and not posting a review. I'll make amends this year, as I know this is a new itinerary for Celebrity and will be of interest to many. I hope I am able to give a glowing report!

OK Phil....I'm putting you down on the calendar. Expect to read a great report in late November. Worst case for us is if it's a bust we'll not be to final payment and could drop out. (Fat chance we'd do that but it sounds logical....)

Hey Cindysue,
Were on the 4/25/05 cruise out of Galveston. We're not sure yet which airport is best to fly in to for the Galveston departure. Anybody have any ideas on this?

The two closest airports of any size are in Houston, TX. Houston Hobby International Airport is 42 miles for Galveston and it takes about an hour to drive. The other is Houston Intercontinental Airport and that's about 70 miles from Galveston. Travel time is around an hour and a half. There's quite a good size "cottage industry" of transportation companies that have grown up around Galveston becoming a cruise port so getting from either airport to Galveston is pretty easy. For us we'll simply drive from San Antonio and that's about 4 hours. I have a website for Galveston saved at home that has some of the limo services linked. Email me at: rklug@sbcglobal.net and I'll send you the link.

MY HUSBAND AND I ARE BOOKED ON THE MARCH 10, 2005 TRANSCANAL OUT OF GALVESTON ON THE GALAXY. THE SHIP ONLY GOES TO GATUN LAKE, THEN TURNS AROUND, DOCKING AT CRISTOBAL PIER. WE DID THE BRILLIANCE CANAL CRUISE THIS PAST MARCH. IT WAS SO AWESOME, THAT WE DECIDED TO GO AGAIN NEXT YEAR, AND WHEN WE FOUND OUT THAT OUR FAVORITE CRUISELINE HAD A SHIP SAILING OUT OF GALVESTON,(WE LIVE ABOUT 1 1/2 HOURS AWAY-NO AIRFARE) WE COULDN'T PASS IT UP. WE WILL BE IN SKY SUITE 1203. IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS CABIN, I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFO.

We're on the Febuary 14th cruise and are in Sky Suite 1221. We paid the deposit last week and saw the price go down on Buycruises.com from $2011/pp to $2079/pp today. I called them up and they adjusted the price down. It's not much but it is a savings of $60 - one round of bingo? We've never had Concierge Service or a butler so this will be a new experience. Also, for a 12-day cruise, I originally figured it was worth the cost of a regular balcony (which I first booked) and later found the SS was only about $600 more per cabin, so we upgraded.

Anyway, I'm looking forware to it and as we live in Ft. Worth, we're about a 6-hour drive from Galveston and my parents live about 20 minutes from there - not too bad a drive and free "hotel". I'm ready!

Agree with Lucy. The opportunity to drive to a cruise is new for us and has allowed us to book a really nice cabin. We're in RS 1057 on the 21 March sailing and we're still paying quite a bit less than if we had to fly to say Ft Lauderdale to catch a ship. Also getting 12 days versus 10 days so our cost per day is even lower. My wife lived in Galveston as a young teen so we're going to head down that way a day or so early so she can show me the town and she can visit some of the places she remembers. Haven't seen a price drop yet on our category but there's always hope. We booked in early April and since then the upper categories have not filled up and, in fact, very few cabins have disappeared from the available list. I realize it's still really early but maybe they'll lower the price to get more bookings as we get closer to the sailing. We really want Celebrity to have a good experience in Galveston so they might expand their sailings as it's a dream come true to be able to easily drive to a port and save some significant airfare.
