Celebrity century sailing from Los Angles to Vancouver

Has anyone taken the Century from Los Angeles to Vancouver. I beleive it only makes this route once a year leaving L.A. and repositioning to Alaska for the summer. I have read many negative things about this ship, so not sure if I still want to go on it. We are Diamond members on RCCL, this will be our first cruise on a Celebrity ship. I know it will get a complete makeover and be ready in February 2014, but that won't improve the sea day activities or food I have been reading complaints about.

Any suggestions, and also any good hotels near the dock to stay at the night before?

We have done the Century wine cruise from San Diego to Vancouver twice now. (2011 & 2012) We love Century - she may be older but she is lovely. The ports are different and interesting. Two days in San Francisco is always worthwhile. Love Oregon and Victoria. Have a great trip.

We'll be on the Century after is comes out of drydock in Feb. and very much looking forward to it. While there, it is not getting "a complete makeover" as was previously advertised. It will only be in for a very short period, not long enough for any major changes.

Century does have charm and intimacy often not found on many ships these days. It is smaller and would be difficult to compare to a Royal Caribbean ship.

My wife and I were on the Celebrity Century on a Vancouver to Alaska to San Diego 2-week cruise a couple of years ago. The ship wasn't that hot, but the staff including Richard Rodin in the piano bar made it one of our top cruises ever. The entire staff was just super, plus some of the international passengers we met are still friends two years later.

To the OP, we are going on Century for the first time in a couple of weeks. Can you tell me where you have found lots of negative reviews?? I have been looking at reviews for the past couple of months and have not really seen a lot of negatives, just the "usual" amount in general for any ship.

I have been all over the board, so will have to try and locate it. We usually sail on RCCL and have never been on a Celebrity ship before. We like the pacific coastal itinary, so thats why we are searching for info as I know this is their smallest and oldest ship. We like the game shows, bingo, etc that go on during the sea days. I read somewhere that there wasn't much of that and at night the only people out after 9pm were the staff. There just didn't seem like much going on after 9pm, not music or dancing as one person wrote.

I would think the passenger mix is dependent on the itinerary.

On the Pamana Canal cruise on the Century, which had lots of sea days, there was bingo every afternoon in the Crystal room. There were a couple of lecture series in am and afternoon. There was group activities on the pool deck in the afternoon.

Seeing that we had late dinner and never finished till about 10pm, there were many passangers out and about after 9pm.:) Michael's club had folks enjoying the piano guy till midnight. Know that a group of passengers had late nights in the Hemishpere Lounge. And Cova Cafe was always full late at night, people enjoying a late night after dinner drink. Many times there was music at the Cova in the evening. Then there is the casino if that is your interest.

Century last September for the Vancouver to San Diego run and then again this past April for a short 5 day cruise R/T out of SD. We are booked for the Hawaii R/T out of SD for this T-Day and then again for the Trans-Pacific next September. She is an older ship...but we have enjoyed her size and the staff etc. If you try and compare her to an S Class ship...or a new RCCL ship...there is no comparison. But I think you will enjoy the cruise...it is so fun to cruise up the west coast!! LuAnn

For us, one reason we are looking at Century is we prefer a mid-sized ship to the large ships. We primarily cruise on HAL and prefer that size ship.
