Florissouri Posted September 18, 2013 Author #26 Share Posted September 18, 2013 We are from Canada. Gary has been on a couple before me (in his other life lol). I'm from the Eastern most part of the country. So I'm a water/sea baby!! Soo excited. I'm worse than a kid right now! 9 more sleeps till we leave!! Carnival is not the most luxurious cruise line and their food is average, but their cabins are considerably bigger than most and this is a good itinerary. Don't blow all your money in the casino or drinking on the ship, spend it in port instead.

We are planning on looking at the days in port tomorrow night to see what mischief we can get up to in port. :). Casino won't be a problem for me. Ill want to be everywhere! Lol. I've been to St Thomas several times and it's nice, but pretty boring. I guess I should do some sort of excursion. I've been to Barbados once and was pretty disappointed. It's not very nice port as I remember it.

sail7seas Posted October 30, 2013 #32 Share Posted October 30, 2013 I'm not saying anyone is calling me a hotel snob, it's just a statement of fact that I'm not picky about hotels. I just wanted a little feedback. And yes, you are correct I live a few minutes from world class beaches so that's not important to me. As far as flying in the same day as the cruise, flying from FLL to SJU is comparable to flying from San Antonio to Dallas. People can't seem to get this out of their home mindset to understand it's just a short hop from Ft Lauderdale. Flights get cancelled for all sorts of reasons. They even sit on runways for hours sometimes despite consumer protection laws. Security snafus in airports can empty out terminals. Idiots who do stupid things in airports can delay dozens of flights..... Odds are good you'll be fine but there is always a risk if flying same day. Morning!!! we are on the same Cruise :) We fly in on Sat and staying at the Sheraton OSJ, which is right across the street to the dock. On the way home we will be staying there again. From my understanding, (and I could be wrong) once you arrive to the dock and get your luggage on board you can leave again and see the sites due to how late we are sailing. Yes. After you check in and get your ship's ID, you can leave the ship and go back ashore. Pay attention to time of 'all aboard' and when your life boat drill will be held. MommaBear55 Posted October 30, 2013 #33 Share Posted October 30, 2013 Although I haven't stayed at the Sheraton I would second the suggestion. OSJ has plenty of great restaurants and the hotel's location is perfect for taking a walk, exploring the sights and then having dinner. The area around the hotel is well lit, just be sensible and stay away from the small alleys, at least at night. Sheal We have stayed at the Sheraton OSJ and loved it. It was fun to see the cruise ships right outside our 5th floor room. It is also on the free shuttle route. We also like to walk and went everywhere. There is a great walk along the waterfront from the hotel to the big fort. There are also a few restaurants right in the area, including local fare, Subway and Senor Frogs.
