Six sea days in a row.

This will be the first time we have had such a long sea cruise. It will be our fourth cruise, second HAL. We are taking the Noordam from Athens to Rome and then Rome to Ft. Lauderdale. Our other cruises were all seven days. This one will be 26 days. I love ship time. We never seem to stay in any one port long enough to really see the port or area. This trip I am going to approach the cruise director to see if he would let me teach square dancing to anyone interested in trying it. I am a caller and in six days or more I can teach someone enough to go on and dance a basic level dance or find a class in their area to continue learning. In my experience it's the ladies who have to get the men to try it, but after they try it, it's the men who are after the wives to "hurry up, don't want to be late" to a dance. Maybe I can drum up enough interest to give it a go.

Sounds like fun. You may have better luck if you approach the cruise director before the start of the cruise. Someone on cc can tell you how to do that.

I couldn't handle six sea days. The most I've had was 3 in a row and I was ready to get off the ship, just for a change of scenery. I have the same problem at home if I have more than a couple days off work. I can stay busy, but eventually I need to go somewhere or do something different, even if it's just a trip to the grocery store.

We have a lot of sea days coming up on our Antarctica cruise, but will have something to look at. We were on the Rotterdam Black Sea/Holy Land Cruise and loved it.

Crete is a very interesting destination, and, while not Egypt, you will enjoy it!

My record is 10, on a Wind Surf Transatlantic. It was supposed to be 12 but some supplies missed the ship and we made an unexpected stop in Madiera to pick them up. I'm booked on the fall 2014 Wind Star TA which will be 12 consecutive sea days. My longest on HAL was 6 on my Rotterdam TA and I'd have been happy to have more.

WELCOME TO CRUISE CRITIC!

We did that many years ago and might "give it a go". But we no longer have the regular attire and couldn't pack it even if we did.;)

Trying to imagine a Cajun caller.:):)

Would be fun!

Do come and join the roll calls for this cruise. There is one for the OCT 20 cruise AND one for the OCT 31 Rome departure ... Hope to see you at the "Meet and Greet".

We too love sea days..We love to sit out on the Promenade Deck with a good book & watch the sea go by with an occasional snooze in between..DH also enjoys sea days doing the same thing..

There are so many things to do on board, sleep late, go to the MDR for a lovely breakfast, out on Promenade deck until lunch..Lunch in the Lido & taking in an occasional lecture or movie & then again out on deck to enjoy the rest of the afternoon..Also try to take a lie surly stroll on the Promenade deck..In between, reading & snoozing on deck, I might spend about a 1/2 hour in the casino, but that's it for the day if I've spent my daily gambling allotment..When we're with Friends both DH's go to afternoon tea while the ladies stay out on deck..Love it..

I had thought a few sea days would be okay' date=' but not several in a row. However on my last cruise which was a transatlantic we missed our first port, Ponta Delgado, due to high winds. Because of that we had 9 sea days in a row before reaching what was originally to be the second port of the cruise. The days flew by - even though the port lecturer never made the ship due to flight delays. There were lots of activities, afternoon tea, movies in the afternoon, etc. I had a great time.[/quote']

We've done several trans-Atlantics..On one of our Trans-Atlantic's Miami to Rome in 2005, we also missed Ponta Delgado because of a storm & had 9 sea days.. Went directly to Gibraltar, for an unscheduled fuel & supply stop...We hired a cab & spent four beautiful hours touring Gibraltar.. :):) Loved it & like you the 9 days just flew by!

Cheers, Betty

Six consecutive sea days? Not enough. My "personal best" was eight, and still wasn't enough, although the rest of the cruise did provide sufficient sea days to make it an overall great cruise.

My upcoming cruise is 3 ports in 14 days. And I have a balcony on the shady side of the ship! :D Sounds perfect.

Count me in on the group who loves sea days. Sometimes even when we are docked somewhere we don't get off the ship (and when I started cruising I swore I would never do that!).

I admit I like to keep somewhat busy but reading on my balcony is one of my favourite things to do. On my TA the ships' activity roster was really robust, and I did watercolour painting, other crafts, and read books, watched movies, enjoyed uninterrupted time with my DH. That last one gets surprisingly difficult at home, but with sea days we really get to enjoy each other's company.

Our record was 7 .... Infound it very relaxing. Books , Scrabble , Bananagrams , sleeping in. I had my 3 kids with me and they quite enjoyed themselves as well. I am sure the staff at the Club Hal were tuckered out.

We were on a SA/ Antarctica and we missed ports and got caught in some wild weather causing us to be at sea for so long. We did have viewing days ( Cape Horn and Antarctica ) but no getting off the ship.

I'd be going bonkers. We're destination cruisers, we cruise to go places and see as much as we can while we can. Maybe some day we'd consider cruises with more sea days but right now those make our brains go "tilt". :)

You need to take a "Land cruise". 24 hours instead of only 5 or6.

I like that too. I will add that the sea days are definitely a little nicer when the weather is warm enough to do that. Note: the ship usually provides small blankets and hot chocolate can help too. In addition the temperature, I've been on several cruises where the wind was so bad they actually closed off the Promenade Deck.

Thanks all, loved reading your personal preferences. Our total cruise is 51 days from Rotterdam to Singapore so we will have other sea days as well.

Time will tell if we love multiple sea days or fall in the "let me off" group. LOL

I think we'll be fine. We aren't casino people, may stop by for a bit one day. Seems like there will be lots to do or not whichever we choose. The square dancing lessons sound like fun but I would never get DH to go.

Thanks again and I'll let you know how it goes. Has to beat dealing with freezing weather, snow, ice and slush at home.:D

Sea days are the best!

We are doing a HAL crossing in November and hope to spend a lot of time getting our legs in shape for skiing at Whistler for Thanksgiving. That is the first day the slopes will be open.

When we get back from Whistler, we will be doing a Hawaii round trip LAX cruise and plan to spend even more time on that cruise getting ready to ski in Switzerland in January. This one will be a Princess cruise so we will also be taking hula and ukulele lessons.

After we get back from Switzerland, DH has forbidden me to book any more cruises until the end of ski season, but we are doing a Cunard SFO/FLL trip through the canal, starting April 1st. When we get home from that cruise it is time to start working on the garden, so we probably won't be able to cruise again until fall of 2014. I am already looking for cool places to go next fall. :)
