Halifax-lunch

Murphy's is great and another good choice is Salty's. It offers both a high end menu ( upstairs) and an everday dind of menu downstairs. Also right on the watherfront with a good view. Almost next door to Murphy's.

Thanks for the recommednations!!!!:)
I live in Halifax and if you want to enjoy great seafood, just take a trip outside the city and visit the local restuarant. You get the best and fresh seafood. Try to avoid what I call the tourist traps.

Nothing wrong with any of the choices that were offered you, but my absolute favorite place to eat fish, scallops or clams is John's Lunch in Dartmouth. I grew up with a dad who was a cook on the big fish and scallop draggers and John's fish is amazing. It might seem a bit out of the way, but it really isn't. You take the harbour ferry (just down the boardwalk from where your ship will dock, which also will be a nice harbour ride as well) to the Woodside terminal and John's Lunch is right there beside the parking lot.

My favorite is the Haddock Tips ($8.25) (much better than typical fish and chips) and the clams and chips are great, or try the combo plate of haddock tips and clams ($10.95). Or how about a seafood platter for $12.95 - Scallops, shrimp, clams fish and chips. You can't beat that price (but I would ask them to substitute haddock tips for the fish) Big servings, quick service, great people. They are used to getting cruise boat customers there.

Eating at John's Lunch reminds me of eating in tiny ethnic restaurants in New York City, just a few booths, some counter stools and the cooks right in front of you cooking while talking in another language (in this case, Greek)

You can check out their website at http://www.johnslunch.com/menu.html[/url]

The other restaurants mentioned are really good too, just realize that The Five Fisherman is quite expensive (main courses around $30-35 each) and you're paying for the "class" of the restaurant, not the size of portions. Good quality fish doesn't have to be expensive. Here is their menu http://www.fivefishermen.com/menu.html

Salty's is nearby (beside the ferry terminal where you would go to John's Lunch) and you will spend between $12 - 19 for a seafood main course. Nice view of the harbour on their back deck. Here is their menu http://www.saltys.ca/images/saltys_dn_menu_30_04.pdf

Murphy's has a great view and is right by the ferry terminal as well. Prices for lunch will be $12 - 18. Here is their lunch menu http://www.murphysonthewater.com/fare3.html

Since I moved to Halifax 10 years ago, I ate at a bunch of places to find the best haddock and chips, and John's Lunch does it for me.

I know you won't be disappointed wherever you eat and with your time in Halifax. Halifax is a great small city with tons of character.
