Is there a pattern?

It varies with the itinerary. A 12-day boarding in Barcelona will probably have different nights than one boarding in Venice.

In general, on all cruises the first formal night is the first sea day, then they come every 3 or 4 days after that when there is either a sea day or an early departure from a port (3:00p to 4:00p). There is never a formal on the last night because some people have already packed their formal wear and others have turned in their rentals. The night before the last is often formal.

What is the date of your cruise? We can make some educated guesses of probable days - but nothing is firm until embarkation day.

On our 14 day PC we initially had four scheduled, but only got three.

We have 7 sea days, two in the beginning, two at the end and the other three in between port calls. I like formal nights since we live in a rural area and life is pretty casual here. DH "endures" them, but I think he secretly likes looking sharp once in a while!

I am also curious. We leave Barcelona June 17 and end up in Rome.

Barcelona

Marseille

Monaco

Livorno

Rome

Naples

Sicily

At Sea

Corfu

Dubrovnik

Kotor ( leaves at 2pm)

Venice

Looking at your itinerary & times, I would guess the 1st formal would be Marseille. Your sea day will definitely be formal and most likely Kotor as you overnight in Venice. Once you are onboard you will know for sure as the formal nights will be listed.

I marked the days I suspect likely will be your formal. I agree with Kazu.

Have fun. Great itinerary. :)
