mrsfecura Posted October 2, 2013 #101 Share Posted October 2, 2013 October 2012 - Mediterranean. 40' waves and 79 mph wind. They closed all outside decks. Windjammer was interesting when the captain turned the ship around, the ship listed a bit, causing all the pre-poured juice & water glasses to spill all over. The combination of the wet floor and the tilting ship caused a few people to take a spill. The port that we missed was Nice. Oh boy - fast forward to October 2013, we're leaving for the Med in 5 days! Haha! But I'm ready for anything! :)
Bankshot Posted October 2, 2013 #102 Share Posted October 2, 2013 Sailing from Quebec City to Ft. Lauderdale we noticed the deck hands tying down the deck lounge chairs early one afternoon. We were somewhere in the North Atlantic near Newfoundland and soon encountered 60 MPH winds. The resulting spray was reaching the eleventh deck. marco Posted October 2, 2013 #103 Share Posted October 2, 2013 Many years ago, TA on Italian Line "Leonardo Da Vinci" in Oct coming home from Italy. We hit some kind of Atlantic storm (maybe a hurricane). We were told to please stay in our cabins. The ship was really rockin' and rollin'. We were supposed to dock in NYC early in the AM, we got in about 5 PM.
Sinppu Posted October 2, 2013 #104 Share Posted October 2, 2013 The Baltic Sea in November. The storms are huge. The Baltic Sea in January. So much ice the ships get stuck sometimes. I love my job though :D
clean1owner Posted October 3, 2013 #105 Share Posted October 3, 2013 March 5th, 2013 out of Bayonne NJ on the Explorer of the Seas. The Captain made an announcement at the peak of the storm that the waves were 25-30 feet and the winds were 110 knots. We ended up having to miss Labadee because we had to move so slowly through the storm. Several days later we were still having some huge swells and they kept having to drain the pools. Everytime they tried to fill them, this happened. Now that is one AWSOME photograph!
ookpik Posted October 3, 2013 #106 Share Posted October 3, 2013 1965,Southampton to Mombassa through the Bay of Biscay, on the Kenya Castle.Thirty foot waves and no stabilizers and had two little kids with me, Had to harness them into their bunks. The tables in dining room had a three inch raised edge to stop everything from falling off. What a nightmare. Didn't sail again until 1976.
