Some bad news for solo cruisers

RCCL site just went back online after the upgrade and I was shocked that all single supplements are now 100% regardless of ship and sailing

Used to be averaging around 80%. can someone confirm of the pricing change?

Double the points, double the price.

That is also what I suspect... either that..

or there is glitch in the updating of rate tables, like everything went back to default.. typically when a system is newly upgraded..

because before, it depends on the sailing or ship, some gets 100%, others around 80%

Perhaps they haven't finished customizing the rates yet? Because everything now is at 100% single supp.

I've always paid 100% anyway so am happy with double points - probably because I can't do last minute cruises and maybe choose those that sell out quickly.

It's NOT double points. NOT DOUBLE POINTS.

It is ONE BONUS POINT per night REGARDLESS of category. There is a BIG difference in the wording. If you call RCI and inquire about double points the very first thing they do is correct you that it is NOT double, it is bonus.

It is 100% Bonus for any category BELOW JS because 1 + 1 = 2

It is 50% Bonus for any category JS and ABOVE because 2 + 1 = 3

That said, I highly suspect this is new website teething issues. Give it a few days.

As I have booked many cruises as a solo traveler and the supplement varies by each cabin class, I imagine this field was 're-set' during the major computer software update. That would indicate that all the supplement fares need to be adjusted. There is frequent movement with these supplement fares. They are rarely adjusted on weekends, except for special weekend sales.

RCI is not alone in this industry and many lines have been running 'single supplement waiver' sales this past year to attract this lucrative market. RCI decided to go with a loyalty enhancement rather than a price activity as other lines have done. I commend this.

I could just as easily make some sort of statement that RCI has decided against last minute discounting as they did not 'update' the weekly 'Tuesday Sales Event' flyer this week as they have always done before. 'This must mean the end to discounting in the cruise industry.'

I was considering a few for next year with only about a 20% supplement. Unfortunately, I just checked and now they have 100% supplements. I guess my plan for 4 cruises next year is going to have to be adjusted.

I was going to do multiple NCC bookings on my cruise in about a month. Does anyone know how long the NCC's are good for? If pricing doesn't get better for solos next year, I might want to spread the 4 cruises out over the next few years.

I don't think it's a computer glitch. I checked my booked cruise prices this morning, and noticed that my son's single cabin went from 180% to 200% for the same cabin, new bookings.

Again there is a probability that they haven't updated their single supplement multiplier rates table yet in their database because everything just went back or reset to default 200% for new bookings after the upgrade.

Let's wait till Monday when a price specialist customize the bookings.. the single supplement typically varies up to maximum 200% depending on the demand of a particular sailing..

But right now it's flat 200% accross the board for new bookings.

So better wait and see and hold off solo bookings for a while until their system stabilizes

There is an actual glitch in the system right now, but it's not one mentioned by anyone here yet.

The website is truly DOUBLING the fare for a single. In fact, part of that fare is "non-commissioned fare" and is only paid once per passenger. So, just like taxes, this part of the fare should not be part of the single cruiser's fare.

I assume that they'll fix it soon.

I think they are working to fix things. Earlier today, I had priced a cruise and the 3rd person rate was coming up the same as passengers 1 & 2 in the cabin. Just looked and the voyage I'm looking at is corrected now. BIG difference!

Double the points big whoop rather have a cheaper cruise solo :(

It doesn't appear that Royal's system has been loaded with current solo pricing at this time. Also there are many other mistakes often on the same sailing within the booking system at this time. I suspect that even next week some errors will still be there.

All the recent scheming by couples on recent threads here about booking solo connecting cabins on low supplement sailings to gain extra points may have caught the attention of Royal. It wouldn't surprise me if solo pricing remained high at this time since they are giving extra points on these fares.

Of course.....there is a really simple fix to avoid such schemes of couples booking solo in connecting cabins. Simply not give extra points to anyone booking a solo cabin on the same ship and sale date for members of the same household/spouse unless they pay 200% for each cabin.

Yeah....no, not at all. Website maintenance. Calm down with your theories. I've literally seen ones and ones of people "scheming" to get points. You do realize that the bonus points is a promotion to gain sales, run by a marketing department. They aren't going to announce a new policy and a week later can it. That's just non-sense.

I really don't care how quickly people earn points. The absolute rock bottom cheapest way to get points is to book solo cabins Cat Z. Would you be mad that someone was sucking up all those inside guarantees? :D

reminder: very very very few Z guarantees are available for singles.

Let me clarify my statement and make a correction.

Usually an inside cabin is the cheapest cabin dollar for dollar, although occasionally outsides and balcony cabins are less through combinations of saving certificates and balcony discounts.

LOL.....you really have a bee in your bonnet!:rolleyes: STEP AWAY from your computer and take a breath. No need to get your knickers in such a knot. NO ONE said anything about them canning the promotion. Now you are just making things up or lack basic reading comprehension. Seriously you have your ideas and I have mine.

I wouldn't be mad at anyone booking anything. All the power to them. You certainly are confused. Just because one has a different opinion than you doesn't make them angry about yours. It would be a sad day if one were to be angry over such a trivial thing as this topic. Expressing ones opinion is the purpose of discussion. The bottom line is Royal is putting this promotion out to attract single cruisers to book. It is not in the best interest of the company to have couples split over 2 cabins as ultimately they prefer more bodies in each cabin.
