Nightmare getting online..... rough seas... surprised I am here.....

Testing....

Are you going through the bay of Biscay? How rough, not enough for bags everywhere ?

Are following the route of James Cracknel and Ben Fogal, just listening to their book on audio books.

Just received a text from Linda ... "4 people didn't make the cruise as they had decided to partake of the drinks package straight after boarding ... one refused to go to muster and the others were incapable of attending so they were put ashore ... that's why we were late getting away"

Sounds like it's a bumpy trip so far and lots going on! If she can't get back on here, I'll let you all know when I hear from her.

OMG, I have never heard of that before, & I've seen some that were "deep in their cups." This is going to be an interesting blog, to. Be sure!

Hi Linda

Looking forward to this. I've always fancied a TA with all those sea days but not sure my DS would like it so much so I'm interested to hear how you get on as a solo.

Hope you have a great trip :)

Carol

*cough* Carol - he would love it - I fully love them now - wouldn't do anything else piece and quiet!!! :P

I don't doubt the peace and quiet, Huw but Ryan likes to spend time with others playing football and if there are no 'others' to play football with then I'd have a whole world of pain with a stroppy 6'2" teenager!! :p

As I said previously the day was a breeze. I arrived at the station in London over an hour early so had breakfast there. The train was on time and very quiet. Met a couple of German tourists also heading to the port so we shared a cab. No lines at all. Anywhere.

The unofficial CC meet was poorly attended; one kind lady had brought a load of poppies for people to wear as they had requested her to; unfortunately whilst she turned up they didn’t . By the time I’d bought my Pimm’s the bar was shut down for Muster. I head with my drink back to my room as I know they won’t let me take it to Muster. I meet my room steward; she seems lovely. I ask her to please split the beds (will try a different configuration this time to last) and to empty the fridge.

Muster went pretty much as usual…. Wearing the pink boa meant that quite a few CC-ers would come over and say hi which was nice. As is usual the Captain came on over the loud speaker; as well as his usual greetings and pleasantries he did say that he had one piece of information regarding the weather tomorrow…. He then played, ‘I love rock ‘n roll, put another dime in the juke box baby, I love rock ‘n roll….’ etc etc. Much laughter then the penny dropped…. The weather tomorrow is not going to be as smooth a ride as one would like. The roll call however had however been pre-warned…. We have a weather hobbyist amongst us and he had correctly predicted that ‘there may be trouble ahead’……

Captain Henrik Sorenson had hoped for an early sailaway; this was not to be. The P&O Adonia left before us. Light was fading and then our ship’s horns sounded deeply and we pulled away…. Chasing down an Isle of Wight Ferry. We pulled by the Queen Mary 2…. Real close. Again our horns sounded, several times this time….. deep and sonorous….. QM2 responded…. Very ladylike and timorous even! Much cheering from her passengers which were echoed by those of us on the helipad and elsewhere.

Returning to my room for the rest of my drink the beds have been split. I unpack then head for dinner. There are CC-ers in line and I join them. We join table with a mixture of Americans and English travellers….. the same table I had sat at last year for the 2nd part of the B2B. Unfortunately the waiter I had then is not on this sailing but our servers are very attentive and good humoured…. They cope with my GF diet well and even have bread ready! We are to have different menus each night….. this should be interesting. I’m shown the menu for tomorrow to choose from. We enjoy a lovely meal and then head to the ‘Welcome Aboard’ show. It’s lovely to see Drew again on top form. Then it went downhill for me. The Headliner, listed as ‘The Comedy of Ray Turner’….. I got up and walked out. Seriously. I thought he was misogynistic…. Took a lady up on stage to dance with him, made a ‘not happy’ sign to the audience behind her back and then as she walked of he pretended to kick her….. what?! One Pimm’s and a glass of Zinfandel and I have lost my sense of humour. Clearly.

Typing this up in my room. Wind is 5 on the Beaufort Scale according to the TV….. no it’s just gone up to 6….. speed : 17.0kts…… going up…. 17.6kts….

OK I’m sat in the Conference Centre area….same place as last year…. People still seem to think I work here but at least I can politely tell them in English that no, I don’t know what time the film starts nor what genre it is. I have no learnt the universal sign for ‘it’s behind me’ when asked where is the movie screening room…..

Am having the devil of a job logging on. Have schlepped back up to the Online Centre and reset the password and it still takes m on a loop when I select the package I want….. use IE not Chrome!!!! D’oh.

Managed to log on and started uploading pics when I got thrown off. Called it a day.

20kts, 8 on the Beaufort scale. Outside decks are closed. They have a ‘Walk a Marathon’ for their charity ‘Make a Wish / Walk for Wishes’ running throughout the cruise. People can sign up for $10, get a T-shirt and then can log their walking….130 laps of the jogging track. Not sure how they will manage to start that today….

Alarm set for 7am…. Not too bad a sleep… feel a bit queasy and have a discussion with myself about do I really want to do this…. Yes, I do…. And head for the gym. It’s busy in there. The water in the Jacuzzi / spa is very choppy in there…. Not in use naturally….. I walk off a fair few calories. Back to my room for a shower and turn on Drew’s Breakfast show…. As ever he is warm and funny…. And then he mentions me…. He and Cuddy (the Entertainments Manager) are discussing what they are going to do today and Cuddy says he is going to meet his Credit Critters (!) and Drew corrects him with the phrase Cruise Critic-ers and that he would be coming along to meet up with his very good friend and how lovely she is… ME! (to be fair I did email him to say I would be on board…. We’ve sailed together on Adventure and Freedom) Really perked me up….. he mentioned the pink boa too….and Patty, your monkey is on the desk!! :D

Currently sitting in the Viking Crown pre-M&M. Lots of people in here just hanging out….

Despite there being wifi access am still unable to log in…. I’m trying folks.

Have had a lovely day. Currently sat in the Conference centre area where I managed to log in a couple of times before being thrown out…. Using my mobile to post is a big mistake. Sat on a sofa so no-one is asking me directions…. More’s the pity…. Rather gorgeous young man asked for advice last night…. Nearly passed on the phone number of one of my daughters…. Piano bar man is 2 floors up in the Schooner bar and I am loving sat here with sweet sounds wafting down.

M&M was packed. Great fun. Cubby in charge…. And yes I did get hold of the microphone! Lovelyy trays of canapés courtesy of RCCL and plenty of soft drinks. Am thinking was that busy because there was nowhere else for people to go!! As it was they had to ask people to leave for the ‘function’ to be held. We cancelled the room crawl. Some members didn’t make the meet and I am aware that there are people not bearing up too well. Gift exchange went well too.

Went straight to a solo cruiser’s lunch…. Major fail. Unfortunately there was no-one there from the entertainment crew to meet and seat us so we sort of organised ourselves but as there were non solo cruisers there too we all got mixed up. During the meal Mimosa’s appeared. I found out subsequently that the entertainment crew had 4 off being sea-sick!

I left to go line dancing led by Jenny from the entertainment staff. I lasted half an hour. Headed to Casino for Slot Pull Tournament. Sampled first Mudslide….. meh….. I’ve had better. Came 4th. Last week they charged $10 to play. This week it’s $25!! I came 4th today. 12 will make the final…. Have to see if points will cut it or not. Back to the room for a nap….. I’ve not come across this before but the Captain has a TV channel…. At least he did today….. Interviewed by Drew he was discussing our course and importantly the weather.

Formal night. Have had a few official pics taken…. Will see if any cut the mustard…. One with the Captain. Sat at the same table for dinner with none of the same people….. was it something I said? Many men in Tuxedos; saw one awesome dress kilt. At my table one gent in a Lacoste Polo shirt and blue jeans….. Was lovely to stroll along the prom much much later and see the formal wear still evident, especially the men with a wide variety of style and bow tie colour….

Chatting in Prom with various total strangers….. having a giggle….. then Drew appears…. (I’d already left a bunch of pink feathers in his CD requests box!) He tells me he had been having quite a day today with 4 staff members seasick….. he had sought me out at lunch time but I had already left. It’s like having a friend on board…. Really…. I hardly know him but we spent quite a long time catching up with his life…. He’s going to be a daddy to Ava in February. He’ll be taking leave then spending time on Oasis, then more leave, then Oasis in Europe (no way will I be cancelling!!) Mrs D and Ava will be on board too! Richard Spacey will be taking Anthem out of Southampton and then Joff Eaton will take over. 15 CDs will be changing ship. I gave Drew my opinion of the entertainer yesterday. He tells me we’re having a CC lunch one day with various senior crew members. Very cool. Not seen anyone else to tell them. Invites will be sent. I’ve asked if I can meet up with Exec Chef and he’s going to see what he can do. He speaks very highly of the man… I know there are people out there who don’t like the food on board…. But I’m not one of them. I’m extremely well fed. Drew heads of o introduce the evening show, and I head off to try and spread the news…..
