js Posted November 13, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Hi. We sailed the Breakaway last July in a few BA cabins on Deck 13. Now we are "Movin on Up" LOL. Just changed my Gem sailing to Breakaway for August and booked the Haven S4 cabin! Booked cabin 16706, which I think is the correct side to book since I have just the Haven sundeck above me. Is this correct? Also, what is the big box that is outside my cabin? What is the Private Spa. Also, the Haven on Breakaway is much differnet than the Gem, correct? We will have our own restaurant and lounge and there is a retractable roof. Has anyone ever sat in the Haven while it was raining? Do they cover it with the roof if raining? We usually try to do speciality restaurants. For those that have sailed on the Breakaway Haven, is the restaurant worth to go and forgo 1-2 nights in a speciality? Thank you all very much! Cubechick Posted November 13, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2013 The Haven restaurant is well worth having a couple of dinners. Wonderful food and a different menu from the rest of the ship.
Godiva830 Posted November 13, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 13, 2013 (edited) I stayed in the Haven on the BA in Aug. I had 3 specialty restaurants booked and cancelled all 3 reservations. I ate in the Haven restaurant every night. Every meal. If you want a dinner from a specialty restaurant you can have it delivered to the Haven restaurant. I did have the Dover Sole from Ocean Blue ordered to the Haven restaurant. You still pay the up charge depending on if you order apps and entrees. I only had the Dover Sole, no apps, so I didn't pay the full $49 fee. Also, whatever the Chef's special dinner that is being served in the main dining room that night will be available to order in the Haven restaurant as well. What week are you sailing in Aug? I have BA Haven booked for Aug also :) Edited November 13, 2013 by Godiva830

Bluegirl Posted November 13, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Hi. Also, what is the big box that is outside my cabin? What is the Private Spa. I have been wondering the same thing myself! We are on Deck 15 all the way forward, and the entire area across the corridor is whited out. The spa is on the other side of that and takes up the entire port side forward area. I'm wondering what is between the Haven forward cabins and the spa−maybe the behind-the-scenes area for the spa staff?
Tiggertastic Posted November 13, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 13, 2013 there are pictures linked into some of the reviews in the members section We loved the haven, the restaurant was perfect for breakfast and the sun deck always had lots of room available and had its own cabanas and there were always some spare ones There is a bar and a lounge on the breakaway, you will certainly see a difference from the gem
js Posted November 13, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted November 13, 2013 Thank you all very much! We usually pre book our meals and did so when we booked BA last year July. Do you think being in the Haven we will have more of an opportunity to get a specialty and time we desire on any given day in the summer? We are sailing on August 9. Thanks. Do you think being in the Haven we will have more of an opportunity to get a specialty and time we desire on any given day in the summer? We are sailing on August 9. Thanks. Yes. I made the reservations to the specialty restaurants while I was onboard this past summer. The concierge takes care of everything. You tell him when, where and what time and you'll be all set. No worries. I also had him cancel all my reservations too :o the only one that I would book before sailing to guarantee the time and day is Teppenyaki. That tends to fill up quickly. I'll be on the Aug 24 sailing :D the sailings this past summer were VERY crowded. My sailing had close to 5,000 passengers. You'll be glad your in the Haven and will think it was money well spent. You'll be spoiled for future cruises. I know I am :p lol

PoopDeckPappy Posted November 14, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 14, 2013 I was in the Haven over last New Year's and on one of the days it was raining. My young kids were sad because it was a sea day and rain usually means no pool. Unless you're in the Haven. They close the top if it's poor weather. Of course swimming for kids there isn't the same but it's better than no swimming (both size of the pool and behavior I expect from them). This was on the Jewel. Doing the Haven next month and can't wait.
js Posted November 14, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted November 14, 2013 Right, your room will be under the Haven outside deck area. Thank you. The Haven restaurant is well worth having a couple of dinners. Wonderful food and a different menu from the rest of the ship. Thank you so much for always taking the time to answer my questions! I so appreciate it! I think I will plan on two dinners in the Haven restaurant, since if we will also be eating breakfast there, it may get to be too much time in the same place for my dh (if it were me, I do not think I would need to leave the Haven the whole trip). I just stress about not having any speciality restaurants booked (with the exception of Teppanaki) prior to boarding. I'm a Type A person/planner and it will stress me not having them planned but if all think I should be ok in August asking the concierge to get us a time in a speciality we like, I will try to go with the flow. We don't need to eat early so we will see. I guess once I keep seeing all the reassurance I will be fine :) Thanks again.

We enjoy going to the specialty restaurants as a change of scenery so may stick with doing that buy my mom and I are going on the Sky in March with my dd (20) in an OS and we talked about having something delivered to the cabin if my dd and her friend wanted a chance to eat on their own. I have been wondering the same thing myself! We are on Deck 15 all the way forward, and the entire area across the corridor is whited out. The spa is on the other side of that and takes up the entire port side forward area. I can't believe with all the talk about the Breakaway, we don't know the answer to this question. I researched the BA so much prior to our trip last July but not the Haven since we were staying in a balcony cabin on Deck 13.

I am so happy to hear about room on the sundeck and the lounge. Do you happen to remember if the lounge was open when you were taken onboard to the Haven restaurant? I am wondering if I can stay away from the crowds and get my sticker for the UBP at the Haven lounge as soon as we get onboard since I guess we will be eating in the Haven restaurant for lunch. Yes. I made the reservations to the specialty restaurants while I was onboard this past summer. The concierge takes care of everything. You tell him when, where and what time and you'll be all set. We sailed last July with a full sailing so I know what you mean about crowded sun decks but quite honestly that was the only time it ever felt crowded to me. We had problems finding loungers, even in H2O. I'm so happy to hear it doesn't sound like even on a full sailing, we will have problems in the Haven/sundeck with getting a lounger and relaxing. Also, thank you for telling me about the booking of the restaurants. I will try to get Tappenaki for our second night and will prebook that one. I think we should do the Haven Resaurant on the first night so we can meet our servers and they can get to recognize us. When you board, does someone take you to the Haven Restaurant for lunch? If so, is the lounge open. I am trying to find out if I can get my UBP sticker at the Haven lounge since it was very busy in July trying to get it in the Atrium. If I'm already going to be taken right to the restaurant, I can get it right at the lounge, hopefully. Thanks so much!

This is wonderful news! Another great reason to have the Haven and not have to deal with crowds! Am I correct that we will be taken onboard and directly to the Haven Restaurant? We will MOST certainly get our stickers there since if we immediatley headed to the restaurant, won't be time to catch a drink. I'll have my first one at the lounge after I get my sticker :) THANK YOU very much. That is great news to me since I am the planner and the one in charge of making sure all is done for us. Yes, you will be escorted right to the Haven Lounge. The restaurant opens at noon, so you may find you have a few minutes to kill. Perfect time to get your sticker. ;)
markf Posted November 14, 2013 #20 Share Posted November 14, 2013 I am getting conflicting information as the the number of TVs in the suite. NCL says 1--which I find to be unbelieveable--I expect to see 3 --am i right?
dexddd Posted November 14, 2013 #21 Share Posted November 14, 2013 We will be down a couple rooms from yours in March so I can find out about the white area if somebody doesn't answer by then. From looking at several floors above/below it would appear to be crew area and or storage, basically back of the house type of stuff.

I, too, looked at a couple of decks below and it still looks like a blank area. Even better since less foot traffic. Thank you.
