Cruzin with BQ & CQ Posted November 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2013 We leave on the Eurodam on Sunday, and we are wondering if anyone who has recently returned from a HAL ship can tell us if there are any fund raising efforts on board. We would sure like to help, particularly if the donations provide direct relief to the families of HAL employees. Thanks.
TrinaLC Posted November 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 19, 2013 They are soliciting for the Philippines Red Cross, and HAL corporate indicates they are making a donation as well, noting that HAL has 2,500 employees from the Philippines. Go to the purser's/front office desk and sign a form to donate. It will be posted to your account.
indokiwi Posted November 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 19, 2013 There was an announcement a few days ago that all On Deck for a Cause Walks (the cancer fundraising walks that HAL does) for the rest of the month of November would instead be called All Hands on Deck and all proceeds would go to the Philippine Red Cross. I would do that. Fromt past experiences, even if you don't walk, you can still make a donation.
Krazy Kruizers Posted November 19, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2013 On our recent Nieuw Amsterdam cruise there was a letter sent to each cabin. If you wished to donated you had a choice of writing out a check or having the donation charged to your ship board account. We chose to have our donation added onto our shipboard account as we do not carry personal checks with us. There were 15 crew members on our cruise affected by the supertyphoon and they left the ship the same day we did (Nov 17).

We met some lovely Filipinos (as always) on our recent NA cruise.:(
Krazy Kruizers Posted November 19, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 19, 2013 It is sad Sheila. The wine steward we had in the Pinnacle Grill the first week was one of the ones affected that we knew.
innlady1 Posted November 19, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 19, 2013 It is sad Sheila. The wine steward we had in the Pinnacle Grill the first week was one of the ones affected that we knew. Sad. I wonder if it's the same one we had in the PG? As I recall, he was short and a little stocky. In the MDR (upper level), we had a lovely young woman with a pony tail. And, the wine steward in the Piano Bar (Jason, I believe) was a very nice young man as well. I'm sure we encountered some of the ones who went home. Do you know how were they able to find out their families were affected, Yonnie?

We always do the "On Deck for a Cause" and hope that in December we can add to it!!

We did as well to Red Cross Canada, through my former employer I retired from, as they matched it along with the Government :)
