Gift for crew member

What a thoughtful gesture on your part! A nice small, soft, lightweight throw that she could use in her room (as well as on a plane when she gets to go home for leave) would probably be very useful.

Plus she would have a wonderful personal remembrance of her special friendship with you.

Your problem is assuming that you have a special friendship with a member of the crew. It is not a special friendship. Once you have left the ship, the completely forget you because they have to deal with a new set of demanding passengers.

If you really think that they care about you beyond their required duties to keep you happy and to make sure that you cruise again on the line that they are working for, you are woefully naive.

As many have said, dead presidents and good reports on the passenger response surveys is all that they need and care about.

Oh yes - treat them with respect for the professionals that they are .

You are joking about the Victoria's Secret, right?

Completely serious. I knew one girl who was on a ship in Europe.

As soon as the ship got to Ft. Lauderdale and she had two hours

off she went to galleria. Spent $800 at victoria's secret in one hour.

But still, cash is best.

With reference to another post in this thread, I just got email

last night asking for black 'stockings'. I don't get why these

are a required part of the uniform, yet girls can't buy them

on board.

Completely agree!!

As many have already mentioned, of course anyone with manners will politely accept a gift. That doesn't mean they want it or any memento of your 'special friendship'.

Apparently there are US ports where crew (at least from some countries) are not allowed off the ship. One friend tries to get ethnic food of their choice as a gift. (in addition to cash tips' date=' not in place of cash.)[/quote']

Oh, yes-I forgot about that! When our son was on the Golden in LA, they weren't allowing Phillipinos off (apparently some other ships had had a high # of Phillipinos getting off, not returning, and disappearing). Then, rather than pick on one country, they weren't letting any foreign crew members off. It wasn't a very popular move.
