Why are they removing the Navigator nightclub?

Recommended Posts

I recently heard they were removing the nightclub on the Navigator to put in more inside rooms. Makes sense they'd be inside since on Voyager and Freedom-class ships, the club is near the bottom decks, under the promenade.

Why are they doing this though? Are there plans for another dance/DJ/Club venue on-board instead?

Personally, I always LOVED the Viking Crown Lounge on the Vision-class ships being used as the club. It was fun taking the elevators up and being right there on the dancefloor, with the DJ above looking around at nearly 360-degree views.

Always was disappointed going on other class-ships and not having the Viking Crown the nightclub.

I actually think it's a pretty outrageous move and would not sail Navigator again as a result. That's just my personal opinion. I hope this doesn't become a trend with future Voyager and Freedom Class retrofits. I did look at the updated deckplan on Adventure and they didn't seem to disturb the nightclub.

Don't no why

Maybe they think all those Texans don't need a nightclub:p

Besides all the new cabins the new deck plans have them changing the Olive and Twist to the Cosmopolitan club maybe that's where it will be

Sports bar is gone, changed to the Diamond lounge and they are putting Izumi where the 2 rooms are behind the elevator bank

I look forward to cruising on her again and seeing all the changes

I actually thought about booking one of the new cabins on deck 12 but will for reviews first

Not yet on Adventure, her revitalization in 2014 is small scale, just replacing Portofino with Giovanni's Table, converting the 19th Hole to the Diamond Club and outdoor movie screen and few other little bits like flat screen TVs in cabins and electronic Wayfinders in the hallways and pervaisive wifi, but she is also scheduled for major refit in 2016 when they are supposed to be doing exactly the same as Navigator in terms of converting the boardroom, nightclub and part of the photo gallery to cabins and the top level of the nightclub into a speciality restaurant (maybe Chops as Adventure does not have that now?) and adding the structure to deck 12 with more cabins.

Could just be me but every single cruise I have taken the Dungeon/Crypt/whatever is ALWAYS empty. ALWAYS. And yes we are nightowls. RCI probably looked at the revenue and decided to make better use of that space.
Agree 100%, that's our experience on Caribbean sailings, in Europe it would appear different.

Im thinking the restaurant replacing the nightclub on the Navigator will be Moderno or maybe Rita's.

On the Adventure Im thinking they will put Chops where the flower shop is like on the other 2nd gen Voyager class ships

Agree. I assume that they will move the dance club to the Viking Crown lounge. This is where the Splendour had her dance club.

It wont be Rita's. Rita's will be likely removed from any ship soon at their next drydock.

What is Moderno, please? And does any ship currently have one?

Poster must be mistaken. Moderno is the name of the Brazilian churrascarias on Norwegian ships

OOPS just did 13 days on the Epic so yes Moderno is on NCL

I mean Samba grill :o

I was just on the Legend of the Seas Oct 30-Nov 12. During her refit last year they carved out Izumi and Chops Grille from the Viking Crown lounge. It is only 1/3 of the original space.

I was disappointed in this. Especially since Izumi is the portion that looks over the pool area. I always liked to get a drink and sit here when we sailed away from ports. What was left of the VC lounge was always full.

I have noticed over the years that the nightclubs are becoming less and less crowded sometimes even a ghost town. It does depend on when you travel though. Summer and spring break those clubs are packed at night but the rest of the year not so much. Also from my experience I see that when there is a heavy European crowd on the ship the night club is more crowded. In my opinion I find that the night life in general has been lacking on my past few sailings. Bars lounges clubs and even the casino have died down or closed very early. That is defiantly an area where royal needs to work on.

I may be wrong, but am guessing I am not.

It comes down to $$$$$$$$.

if the lounge is/was jammed....was the BAR busy? The entertainment is there to induce people to buy drinks, lots of drinks...lots and lots of drinks.

If the drinks are not being purchased....then they will find another way to generate revenue......cabins.

For the heck of it, next time you go into any show room on a ship, look around at the number of "watchers"...those folks you sit, take up good drinking space and do not order a beverage...

Despite the evil intent of RCI to make money, that is what those venues are actually for....to generate income.
