How can I reach you to discuss a couple of questions I have? I do not want to post my e-mail address or my questions on the forum. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am the person who suggested you visit/tour the medical center on your next cruise.

Unfortunately I'm not keen on posting my email address on this forum either. Not sure how else to go about it?

Ernie, how was the forward cabin while cruising? Smooth, rocky? I have only cruised once, and it was aft. E117 is our cabin, very forward!

No issues what so ever with the forward cabin. Very quiet and out of the way, with very little foot traffic which is a plus. I didn't feel any movement but I have to admit the seas were pretty calm for this entire cruise. The view from up on Deck 15 was excellent!

Thanks, Ernie! Do you happen to know if smoking is allowed on starboard, forward promenade? I am a non smoker and want to be sure smokers aren't under us.

Actually on RP there is currently no forward promenade available to passengers. One exists, but it is crew only and I never saw anyone on it from my balcony except during the crew lifeboat drill.

There are only two relatively small sections of the promenade deck available to passengers. One is midship by Crooners on the Port side and by the shops on the Starboard side. The other is all the way aft, both port and starboard. You can't walk outside between the two sections, and they are more like a large "porch" for sitting but not much strolling.

You should have no issues with smoke in any forward section balcony.

Hope this helps.

How do you get to the aft "porch"?

Glad that you enjoyed the RP. I can see from the photo album that she's not my cup of tea (I.e. no promenade deck, aft pool, interior color scheme, ect).

I saw the other photo albums and the one that made my heart stop, and tears come to my eyes was the Fairsea album. Thank-You so much for taking me down memory lane ! I am a Sitmar addict. As a teenager I'd spent hours dreaming over my grandma's Sitmar Experience brochures, knowing that when I became an adult with some disposable income, I'd run - not walk to the nearest travel agency and book a Fairwind cruise (she sailed the Caribbean). The older brochures had a full page picture of the aft pool decks. True serenity at its finest. As you know, by 1991, the Fairwind was then the Dawn Princess. When I sailed, many of the crew were Sitmar people. I dearly miss those saltwater pools, the dinner chimes, being escorted by stewards to the cabin, & flirting with the Italians.

Wasn't Sitmar great? I miss them too! Home Lines was very similar and I sailed both lines as a kid. I have quite an extensive brochure collection, and you may remember some of these covers from the Sitmar brochures. They were some of my favorite brochures ever produced!

We just disembarked the Royal, and we found the internet okay. The first day it was quite slow and we used over 20 minutes of our time trying to get on; however, it was quite rainy, so I feel that was an issue.

After the first day, even with the rain, we found no delay with the internet BUT our negative in this area is the internet rep. He was sooooo rude. Asked where the wastebasket was so I could toss the sterile hand towel, and it said if I looked it would be beside the printer.

Another time I sat down at the computer and it was off. I inquired (since it was the first thing in the morning), and I was promptly told that I should not be trying to use that computer because it was broken. I felt somewhat guilty. He should have put a sign or something to indicate same.

He was by far the only employee of the entire ship that had an "attitude." He was more interested on what he was doing on the computer than assisting passengers with questions. Not a nice guy.

Bless you Ernie ! Those are wonderful brochure covers indeed. Very descriptive inside with exact individual cabin layout. When I booked my Dawn Princess cruise I simply told the TA, "C-118 please", & it was granted. I forgot to mention the nightly fresh vegetables served with the proper serving spoon! Cherries Jubilee flambe table side.

I also remember Home Lines ! They were HUGE with the New York market sailing to Bermuda & the Caribbean.

Do you happen to know what port location the Fairwind was at for the cover of the 1982 brochure ? I've been trying to find out. I think it may have been Aruba or Nassau.

The Royal Viking Line Cruise Atlas was another favorite.

Nassau.

I also loved the RVL Atlas. What a great "book"!

Good to hear. I wonder what they did to increase the speed?

We were on the 11/3 sailing and a friend of ours had the same experience with the rep. She is a very easy going person but her blood was boiling after trying to get an answer to a question.....rude, very rude...that's all she could say:(

They were installing additional cabling when we were onboard Nov 17-24. Our internet service was extremely slow that week, especially the last few days where it was practically impossible to connect to anything. :(

Which photo albums are you referring to? I too sailed on the Fairwind when I began my cruising experience many years ago. Would love to relive that cruise through pics. Thanks.

WE WERE ON THE 11/17 WEEK CRUISE & THE FIRST FEW DAYS WERE A BIT ROUGH, WE WERE IN THE REAR RIVIERA & TALKING TO PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT SAID IT WAS MUCH ROUGHER. ALL DEPENDS ON THE TIME YOU SAIL, BUT THE FRONT GETS THE WORST OF IT.

Kathy, if you go on the first page of this thread you'll see the photo album that Ernie posted of the RP. On that page you'll see where to click for the other albums. Look for "Fairsea Summer 1984. This album has some AMAZING pictures of the tiled aft pools & some dining room shots that show the refurbished interiors.
