What ship to choose between 3

Hello all,

We will be cruising in January for my birthday and I got to pick which ship to choose.

I don't really care about the itinerary as we have been in the Caribbean so many times.

The price is almost the same. My real and only problem is picking between 3 cruise ship.

NCL Epic: Big ship seems to have lots of entertainment.

Carnival Glory: fun ships and love the 2.0 upgrade.

Royal Princess: brand new ship but heard bad reviews on it.

We have been over 20 cruises but can't seem to decide on this one so if u have

been on all 3 please let me know which one and why.

I will also post this in carnival and princess forum to make it far.

Thank you all already

Sea ya

Eric

Can't speak to NCL as we have never sailed with them. We have liked going on Carnival but is a bit younger and rowdier crowd. Just got off the Royal earlier this month and really only had two not happy with things which really don't apply to the ship itself. The first thing was the embarking process because they weren't prepared for all the people. They stopped all lines including priority boarding where we were and when they started the lines again they had already let all the general boarding people that were already inside the terminal waiting area board instead of finishing with priority first. The second thing we were unhappy with was our room steward who was just average. For our room location I would have expected a top notch steward. All in all we loved the Royal, beautiful ship, dining experiences great, entertainment very good, and lots to do on board.

We are booked on Royal Princess for next year, so I've also read the reviews. From what I gather, the people unhappy with the ship are mostly Princess traditionalists who are unhappy that the Royal is a departure from the Grand class. Many of the negatives I've read are comparisons which, to someone whose never sailed on Princess, mean nothing (there's even people complaining because the toilet paper holder in the cabin bathroom is in a worse position than on Grand class ships! Give me a break!)

I can assure you that as more "average" cruisers try out the Royal, and the reviews from the pickier Princess loyalists fade, the reviews for the Royal will start improving immensely. There's already a few reviews that are much more balanced and objective than the first ones I read.

Truly looking forward to sailing on our 1st Princess cruise in 2014! :D

Our neighbors just returned last week from a cruise on the Norwegian Epic and they hated it. They said the ship was dirty and the food was awful.

Carnival Glory has recently received the 2.0 upgrades. My vote would be for the Glory

NCL is not known to be dirty. As for hating Epic in general, of course it's possible. But, then again I hated Liberty. So, we all have opinions.:D

The Epic is a "gimmicky" ship. If you love a million different activities (including bowling in a bar, sitting in an ice bar where the temp is below freezing, etc.) that all have an "extra" charge to it than the Epic may be your choice. Also be aware that the cabins are funky. They have curved walls and you best not be modest when using the throne as the bathrooms are unique. Just be forewarned about all of the upcharges they hit you with when setting your budget. However, if you have kids / teens that will be going with you, or if you love having dinner in a different restaurant every night, this might be the best bet.

First criteria: The one I haven't sailed on.

Second criteria: The newest.

Third: The biggest

Fourth: Reviews

Giving me those choices named... I'd probably go with the Epic. See what all the hullabaloo is .

What a fun dilemma. Happy cruising!!!:)

We sailed the Epic with a large group ages 11-46. We all had a great time and thought the ship was a lot of fun. We chose Epic because a couple people in our group were first timers and they were worried they would be bored. The ship was clean, food was good, and the staff were great. We loved all of the activities on board. Best part about the entertainment was the live blues band that played every night. Best live band I have seen on a ship. We liked the large pub on board where you could play darts on a full size electronic bar style dart board, bowl, have anything off the bar menu and hang out. It was a great late night spot. The only thing anyone complained about was the giant casino that you had to walk through. The interior of the ship is very nice.

If you want a laid back ship that is fun with lots to do then the Epic is a good choice.

Btw, I think the profile of the ship is ugly. It looks like it has a giant forehead and is stumbling through the water. lol. That didn't stop us and we are glad we tried her. We all agreed we would sail her again.

I really want to try Epic, I just can't get over the, lets build this beautiful ship and then plop a shoebox on the top . I guess I'll have my DW blindfold me before we board and not look at the ship while at port's..lol..:D. Who designed that ship anyway and who approved that design..wow..

I have sailed all three lines but none of those ships just like you. I would pick the Epic. I believe the exterior is probably the ugliest one out there but the interior looks amazing to me and I love all the options that are offered. I also love the "Freestyle" way of cruising.

The "shoebox" is actually The Haven area on-board. Included in The Haven are its own restaurant, swimming pool, workout room and other amenities for the suite guests that are booked there. In many ways those passengers never have to leave their private area. In all likelihood it is probably the most profitable area on-board the ship.

It is a hard decision to make but once I have done it will not look back.

I do love the 2.0 upgrades then have done on Carnival but the Epic is so strange looking that it is almost a must to do.

decision decision lol

Try the Carnival Glory.
Glory is nice -I've been on her twice now.

Glory was great both times, but I would go for Royal Princess

because it is BIIIG, and brand new. :)

Just bear in mind they may still be working out the bugs

so remember to pack your Understanding.

I've sailed all three lines, but not necessarily those ships. (Never sailed Epic, but I have sailed the other two.) I personally, would choose Glory, because I know that Carnival, and Glory, offer the things I enjoy. Princess is an excellent line, but the "Royal" has some design flaws, IMO. I've heard a lot of pro's, and con's reference the Epic, so I'd be a bit hesitant to spend that much money on an unknown, when I could go with Glory, and KNOW that I'm going to enjoy my cruise.

Granted I have not been on her since her renovations, but I had a great time on Glory. I would also jump at a chance to try the Epic and the RP, so I can see your dilemma OP. Since you don't care about the ports, it really just boils down to price and ship features.

While Glory has been renovated, she is still the oldest and smallest of the group by a fairly wide margin. If you've been on CCL before, the experience on Glory will be more of the same. If you're not locked into building loyalty points with CCL I'd try one of the newer/bigger ships just to see what they're like.
