A review of the Prohibition Party aboard Allure of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Hello friends! As many of you know, I just finished doing LIVE from Allure of the Seas this past week. I attended the Prohibition Party last Thursday which was a lot of fun but did not want to try and post all the pictures as the wi fi aboard Allure was never very good and it would have taken what would have seemed like forever to get them up on the LIVE thread. So, I decided to do a separate review here.

I booked this in advance via my pre cruise planner on Royal's website. It can be found under specialty restaurants and is only held on Thursday at 10:30 pm. I'll get to my thoughts on having it on the same night as lobster night in the MDR later.

The cost is 35 dollars per person and surprisingly it never sold out on our sailing, as it was still available to book Thursday morning. Here comes the somewhat confusing part: as we had never done this before, I kept waiting for a phone call or a letter with the "password" to gain entry. Instead a crew member came by and gave me a brown piece of paper which had a description of the event and it looked like just a general reservation form. I had to visit guest services where they explained you gave it at check in and then there they would give you the password for entry. Just my opinion but that could have been done better to eliminate all the confusion.

It's held in the Jazz Club on deck 4 where you give your name and cabin number to the man who checks you off the list. You are then given a little box which holds a lapel pin to wear on your suit(or for the ladies, their dress) and on the back of the box is the password. It can be very hard to see.... if you can't see it they will whisper it to you before you go to the door to be allowed in.

So with that so far, let's see a few pictures from the beginning of the party:

Here is the gentleman that you give the password to so you can be allowed in:

After that you walk through a side corridor to another entrance to the Jazz Club and then you're in

At this point we experienced one of the "false alarms" where the man in charge(the person you saw at the door) made everyone get to the floor as the sounds of rival mobsters and police played in the background to make everyone believe we were about to get busted. A few didn't want to do this of course, which kind of took away from the fun.... they were the same people who didn't make any effort to dress the part either

There's always some, no matter where/what:).

Were the drinks just lined up like that for effect or did you have to 'make your own'?

One of the ladies that goes around getting people to dance and make sure everyone has a great time

There is horse racing(also "illegal") and you are given two hundred "dollars" to bet on them. Then they do an old style radio broadcast of the race. Neither one I bet on won :P

Time for some photos with the ladies

We did this on our cruise... What a great time. We all dressed up too. So much fun walking around the ship and people staring at you - especially as we went through the casino towards the club. All our drinks were served in tea cups. Music and dancing, again lots of fun. Our horses didn't win either :(

Overall it was a great time. The minor criticisms were:

I think it should be held on a different night than the second formal night in the MDR, which is also lobster night. We were seated way past our reservation time and had to rush through dinner so by halfway through the party, we were struggling to stay awake.

Second, I read in many reviews that the "cops" raid us since this was set in the prohibition event.... it never happened. There was no raid so it was a disappointment not to experience that. Not sure why they didn't do that.

But as I said, it was a lot of fun and I would do it again. Just maybe skip dinner in the MDR or go at a much earlier time

I think I remember the server from the pool deck on our cruise in May. He was very entertaining.

So I am a bit torn on how to dress. I want to play along but still keep my suit case under 50 pounds. ( :) ) Do people wear their prohibition garb to the formal dinner that night? (fun!) Any suggestions?
