Hi Terri, yes it is combinable with Amex. OBC. Let me explain a bit more about the Amex credit. You must pay deposit and final payment with a Platinum or Centurion American Express Card (non branded). With that benefit if you book any category under a Suite you receive a 2 category Upgrade within that type of cabins so if you book a VA Balcony you pay the price of the VC but you cannot for instance pay the price of a VA and get a SS. Although if you book a Vista Suite or Signature Suite or higher you will get $300.00 Ship Board Credit and Pinnacle Grill dinner for the first night. Often HAL will not allow this benefit when booking a Flash Rate.

Now the Party you mentioned is totally different American Express sets up Groups with Cruise Lines much like any travel agency can do but any of their participating agencies under American Express can also get this benefit for people who book with them. This benefit may be a hosted American Express Party by a Host from American Express and Hosted Shore Excursions and or Ship Board Credit. Using the American Express card does not guarantee you getting invited the the Captain's VIP party.

You are correct that the card cannot be a branded Platinum Card such as Costco or Delta Sky Miles it has to be issued directly from American Express.

Thank you Lisa,

I have used the Platinum benefits many times and know that you must pay with the card, etc.

I just want to be sure that if I decide to cancel and rebook it will be worth my while.

Thanks again.

Terri

Lisa,

Does this apply if you book direct with HAL using the Amex Plat or does it only apply if booked through Amex? A little confused!

Thanks!

You do not have to book through AMEX, but your TA must participate in their Program by paying a fee to do so. They get a tracking number that is then given to HAL at the time of booking and final payment.

I do not know if you can book directly with HAL and receive these benefits. If you decide to do so make sure you ask for the Cruise Benefits associated with the Platinum Card.

For more info you should read about the Cruise Privileges Program on the AMEX web site.

Thanks to the OP who alerted me to this sale.... my cruise which I've had booked for the past year is offering $150 OBC for new bookings. I had my TA call, and got it applied to mine, and obviously it can be combined with FCCs.

Did you have to rebook? Or was it applied to your current booking?

It was simply applied to my current booking. No pain!

I've just sent an email to my PCC. She should still be at work because it's an hour earlier there than here. I hope I can have it applied. If I can I owe you a drink:D. You might have to wait a while to collect it;). Maybe Apr 2015.

After reading this forum, I went to my TA's web site and received a quote to take us from an Oceanview to a Balcony - "VC" class for $100.00 total for both of us. Not advertised on their web page, but a pop-up screen suggested I submit my E-mail for "specials". Two minutes later received an offer of $400, (total), reduction for this class of stateroom.

OOPS! I may have spoken too soon. Just received an E-mail from our TA, and it seems I would have to give up over $275. in on board credits and benefits to move from an our ocean-view to a balcony stateroom for a $100 price increase. Likely won't happen.

Sounds like a plan!;)

I couldn't get this applied to my booking because my category is sold out and the next category is much higher. I would have to rebook to get it and it's a lot higher.

That's too bad. My category is no longer available (maybe they are holding some back), and I got it with no problem. Well darn, there goes that drink!

I really think it depends on who your TA talks to. My TA talked to one HAL rep that was very "belligerent" (her words) and did not want to add it. She hung up and called back and it was no problem.

Ok, it took a few more calls but it's been added. Now you will get your drink. Thx for the additional ammo I needed.

Yup, you are right. It's too bad that there isn't better training. This is why people get upset with Seattle. The PCC I spoke with passed me on to reservations (long story with this booking). That person talked to their supervisor. The reservation agent was very good and I'll give her credit for that.

I'm glad it worked out for you.
